Red letter day- S21 together!

Hello, I am continually perplexed that PRS landlords have no collective voice and just mutter in the background.

Surely we can muster an organised campaign through all the various membership bodies and write an open letter in major national papers. I’m pretty sure Telegraph or another red top would relish this doubt among the sector and there will be some great marketers that can make this happen.

We need perhaps an even stronger message of market intent by having a Red Letter day – a simultaneous S21 eviction notice (you choose if intend to carry it out or just as a flag) across the land with an open letter attached. That will get Ministers to listen and act!!

Who will join me??

Thanks,

Paul

Yes I got the impression that Gove has modified his language recently but a wolf in sheeps clothing comes to mind when I listen to him.
They are so blinkered about what the PRS needs to function and of problems associated with the abolition of section 21 which will no doubt be the final straw that will break the camels back for lots of us.

I am a member of the NRLA, apart from their excelent landlords forms section (tenancy agreements etc) they basically just want to sell landlord courses and make us 'professional landlords' (and the NRLA rich). Personally the abolition of S21 doesn't really bother me as I would use the proposed S8 clause of wanting the house back to sell .. because I do want to sell

Tom, I'm interest to know where your 43% statistic comes from, as I have been trying to find out this sort of information recently. Many thanks!

agreed. Me too and even if I didn't want to sell this would be the clause I would use. Local councils cant get their sh!$ together to do anything so I cant see them having any time to go through websites to see if a property is listed it to let again within three/six months after eviction anyway. (good LL's dont even need to advertise these days - word of mouth works far better!).

First thing they would need need to know that a S8 was lodged in the first place siting the LL is selling.
The chances are if a LL is selling it is also due to rent arrears?

The person now approaching the council for rehoming runs the risk of being classed as 'intentionally homeless' in the process as rent arrears are cited. They going to cut off their only (possible) option for accommodation going forward?

There is nothing stopping a LL offering a fixed term 3 months contract once possession is gained anyway. Nothing to say this cant be done. They still have the intention to sell within the 3 months. Once the 3 months is up they can then sign the same (or new) tenant up on new contract.

If the law is making it hard for LL's and we cant fight back en mass before legislation is issued, then we follow it to the latter and look for ways of making it work for us instead!

Arthur - it was a stat for London only - not the whole country as I remember. I'll see if I can find it later. Personally, my opinion is that like a lot of these so-called statistics and claims that are being bandied about, it's a little shall we say, enthusiastic!

My statistic about the 43% drop came directly from a BBC report about the extreme difficulties of renting in London. Although the 43% drop in properties available refers specifically to London, the article outlines how similar drops have occurred throughout the country.

I suggested this on the first day that the Renters Reform Bill was published.

Most landlords can’t be a##ed to do anything, sadly.

And too many wouldn’t even know how to complete a s21 notification. You just have to look at Facebook’s Mashroom Community Landlords page.

Best way to protest is to sell up.
