Fergus Wilson was on BBC1 Panorama Monday 18th March at 8:30pm. The program is titled “Britain’s Most Controversial Landlord.”

Get this programme and hold on to your hats as knowing Fergus it is likely to be a Roller Coaster of a ride!

BBC documentary judging the PRS based on the circumstances and personality of one man.

Fergus Wilson’s Comment:

“The BBC is known as the Biased Broadcasting Corporation for very good reason!

Every time Richard Bilton is on a housing programme it is the same old gramophone record of the poor parents with Children with nowhere to go!

It is a subject close to his heart! However, he does the TV audience no good at all by talking up precious time showing tenants forced out and avoiding dealing with the Causation of the Problem!

No time was spent dealing with the prime issue of why are landlords leaving BTL in their hoards due to the punitive tax regimes being introduced for landlords by HMG.

I am slightly different as I am retiring due to old age but for those younger landlords exiting BTL it is because the Government has made it so unattractive.

I ran through the reasons why the Private Sector is no longer investing but it was cut out in favour of Richard Bilton’s same old song!

HMG needs to address just why the PSL is no longer investing.

It is time for Richard Bilton to be thrown on the scrapheap. He is out of time and out of touch!”

At 57 I am just about old enough to remember the BBC were a highly regarded, accurate, non partisan and unbiased news source.
Thats not to be said any longer, Darren.

I agree. I used to think the BBC was the best in the world. Unfortunately not any more, they are biased the standard of their research/journalism is appalling and their breakfast TV presenters look miserable. I watch sky news now

The Biased Broadcasting Corporation will edit out anything said that doesn't fit the narrative they want put forward in the programme.

OMG Could that have been any worse? Only if Fergus would have tried to eat one of the poor deaf homeless children on camera. What a one sided load of tosh. Why did nobody think to ask why he couldn’t sell any of the properties to other LL’s??? No comment at all on why so many LLs selling up or section 24. I have been a LL for around 20 years and have never used a S21 notice at all. Very dissatisfied with the BBC and Panorama what a complete load of tosh. Why would you ever want to get involved in a program like that. I guess that will be the end of S21 notices and the right to sell your investments when you choose. Why let the truth get in the way of a good story eh???

What we don't know is what the BBC edited out. FW could have given a full account of the impact of s.24 and the 3%SDLT Surcharge but it didn't fit their Landlord bashing agenda.

Polly Neate continues with "ending of Tenancy Agreement" being a major cause of evictions.

On the subject of Biased Media - you may have sen a link I posted on Hull's court case last week, about a tenant reported in the Grimsby Telegraph - 'pulling heart strings' about being evicted on Xmas Eve.
Possession Friend spoke to Grimsby Bailiffs today who confirmed the story was FALSE !
Complaint has been lodged against Griimsby Telegraph.

His official excuse is that he is 70 and is retiring. The real reason is that he has had enough of the never-ending stream of burdensome regulation by self-interested politicians eager for the soundbite and of no practical use to tenants. On the contrary, it will come home to bite them (the tenants) when there is a severe shortage of properties available. Good for you Fergus, at least you have one in your fan club!

There used to be tenancies for life. I think they were called controlled tenancies. Landlords could never get their property back unless the tenants died or moved out voluntarily. Being a landlord was not very popular and so to increase the supply Assured Shorthold Tenancies were brought in with legal and legitimate escape clauses in case the landlord wanted to sell, move into the property himself or perhaps even provide a home for his own aged parents. If the government wants to carry on increasing the restrictions on what landlords can do with their properties then landlords will leave the market in droves. Presumably the government will have in place plans to house the 10 million people currently housed in the private sector?
