Will sanctioned property fall into ruin?

So the news is that sanctions have been imposed on some foreign owners of UK property. Presumably, you cannot buy this property from them nor can you pay them rent?

These people will not be allowed into the UK, so they cannot live in their houses?

Will they simply fall into ruin?

Will this mean that some homes and or commercial property will be vandalised?

If a lender has a mortgage on a property will they be able to collect principal and interest payments?

These residential properties should be used to house Ukrainian refugees. Commercial properties if suitable converted into residential accommodation at the expense of the sanctioned.
If mortgaged then bank assets should be accessible to mortgage lenders.

Excellent idea from Judith Wordsworth.

Care? The fact an owner has been sanctioned does not mean of itself that they have colluded with Putin's evil, I see this as a very blunt weapon that without due care may hit the innocent?

However, where appropriate, an Act of Parliament may be suggested to amend the Land Register entry in favour of the relevant Local Authority to provide emergency (i.e.: no more than 6 months?) housing for refugees and thereafter in the LA's hands as effectively council housing for regular tenants? Just a thought....

Such actions in my view are as bad as the culprit, two wrongs don't make it right. Sanctions imposed do not work and water always finds its way around obstacles, Chinese are not going to impose any sanctions are Chinese our next target????

Any sanctions imposed on people who are not party to this war is simply wrong and so it must be considered as shear bullying, and robbing, through no fault of theirs. So the official bullying and robbing is defined as "sanctions" and so is legalised. These sanctions will now destroy the lives of many innocent victims on both sides. It is a revenge. Instead of pouring water on a burning fire, sanctions only help fuel more fires.

So shall we from now on punish the parents of a child who has committed a serious crime, shall we imprison the parents for the crime of their child? Or likewise if parents have done something wrong shall we sanction their children?

Well said Mike.
It is precisely the sort of small minded hypocrisy that you refer to that is making me sell up. You describe my neighbours perfectly.

If the oligarch's properties are untenanted eg UK property for their own use eg Larvov has a residential property in London, these should be seized. Permanently not temporarily.
If "investment" residential properties and tenanted also seized and tenants kept in situ and the rents used to rent other property to house Ukrainian refugees.
Why should this be a temporary measure. The Russians have destroyed Ukrainians homes, are now deliberately targeting residential areas.
If commercial property leave the tenants in situ and use the rents for renting residential property to house displaced Ukrainian tenants.

By the way, I made similar comments to yours when my neighbours decided that it was perfectly OK, if they demanded the right to say who will and who will not live in property that they do not own. No Ukrainians or Russians involved. Just British people who were, for the most part, relatively successful for their age.
As a "class", they were perceived as not acceptable due to not being part of a "family", whatever that means.
My comments which were very much in the spirit of Mike's, were censored by the Winchester council as being "inflammatory" and the hypocritical "neighbours" would get upset by being confronted by their own conduct.
Freedom of speech, who needs it when you can replace it with a mindless process devoid of judgement?

Don't worry Blodwyn they will be taking your property away in the not too distant future. All the while everyone has been concentrating on Covid the government has been busily changing laws and acts and things so they can do just that. Now covid has quietened for a while they want you all to concentrate on Ukraine whilst they push through some more (illegal) laws until they get us all exactly where they want us, crash the currency in order to introduce their new digital currency and take away all our rights. Watch this space.
