I want my tenancy to remain periodic but …

I’ve received a letter from my letting agency (not going to name them) saying that the guidelines and regulations have changed regarding my tenancy going to periodic. I want my tenancy to remain periodic but

I pay monthly so does not seem to make sense to me. Then it goes on to say I might, in the next few months, have to sign a 6 months tenancy and thereafter it will change back to monthly after that all because of this change.

I’m not happy with my landlord as I have been in the property for 2 years and have asked for work to be done (basic maintenance to the building such windows and damp which is up to him as the landlord) and nothing been done. Due to my circumstances though I’m stuck here for now.

Can they make me sign this 6 months agreement?

They have breached their side of the contract and it seems the law favours the landlord.

I’m stuck and would like advice as I have always paid my rent and due to my current position I would find it hard to move so I’m stuck in catch 22.

Any advice please would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Michelle

Hi Mark,

I am in a similar situation... My Tenancy has gone into a Statutory Periodic Tenancy as for various given reasons, we were not issued with a renewal letter, usually given 8 weeks prior to end of AST.
We received a letter late last year explaining that our Deposit had been transferred from the LA's membership to the LL's membership of the deposit scheme, and we were to expect a Repayment ID shortly, when we did not receive the ID, we contacted the LA to find out the details to which the deposit had been registered as we thought therein may lie the problem of not receiving ID, to be told they were nothing to do with the property and to not call again.
Obviously this left us confused and thought the LL must be switching LA's?
Anyway we left it, expecting to hear from LL or another LA.
Out AST expired and one month after it expired we were contacted by original LA asking for intentions to renew, I advised of last conversations, stated I had query with the deposit etc and to leave it with me, anyway to cut a long story short, we were passed back and forth between LA and LL, not having any of our questions answered ref the deposit, hence we were unable to advise of intentions etc.
We have always paid rent and are good tenants.
Two weeks later we were told to sign contract or a S21 would be issued, impossible to do as we had not received contract, we went to the LA's offices to try to resolve issue to no avail ( there is a lot more to this but I am trying to keep it brief), and received the S21 3 days after this. Which I believe is a retaliatory eviction.
We are in periodic tenancy, issued with S21 and have not received any Prescribed Information since periodic tenancy began 6 weeks ago.
Please could you advise how I proceed with regards to the S21 possibly not being valid due to PI not being re-issued?

Thank You in Advance
