The tenant eviction process is no longer fit for purpose

The tenant eviction process is no longer fit for purpose

Under the current system it can take up to 14 months to get your property back, this is not good for Landlords or tenants. If the current system is left unchallenged then this will lead to a slow demise of the private rented sector.

It’s time to take a stand and do something about it.  In this video below, I have shared more information on how you can help.

I have set up a Parliament petition to look at tenant eviction rules and for us to follow an Australian-style system where landlords can apply to the courts to regain possession after 14 days of rent arrears.

We’ve already got over 3,600 signatures, we just need you to sign it to help us get this issue on the political agenda.

We need 10,000 signatures to get a Government response, 100,000 to be considered for debate. Let Landlord voices be heard.

Or you lose your temper and launch cockamamie petitions that make reasonable people think you are heartless.

sorry but I think this is not a realistic proposition.
By all means seek to get improvements to the existing system, but 14 days !?! now way. I won't be signing.

We were here on this subject last week.

It was a bad idea then and its still a bad idea now. As much as I am unhappy (understatement of the year) with the treatment and misrepresentations of saint tenants and demon landlords, putting forward a 14 day eviction will not only be counterproductive but make us a complete laughing stock.

If a petition was started to get a court system that is for purpose (its never been fit for purpose in the 28 years I've been a professional landlord) with credible and not 'laughable' terms I'd be the first in line to sign it. As it stands on this one I'm the first to encourage every landlord not to sign and hope it fades away before it does us even more damage and we score a much not needed 'own goal'.

I think appropriately it is to "start a ripple that may get your voice heard"

Forget 14 days, why not push for law that allows you to take their first child as payment? (For avoidance to of doubt this is sarcasm at how this petition is so off the mood music of the nation, you can see why people dislike landlords).
