Under the current system it can take up to 14 months to get your property back, this is not good for Landlords or tenants. If the current system is left unchallenged then this will lead to a slow demise of the private rented sector.

It’s time to take a stand and do something about it.  In this video below, I have shared more information on how you can help.

I have set up a Parliament petition to look at tenant eviction rules and for us to follow an Australian-style system where landlords can apply to the courts to regain possession after 14 days of rent arrears.

We’ve already got over 3,600 signatures, we just need you to sign it to help us get this issue on the political agenda.

We need 10,000 signatures to get a Government response, 100,000 to be considered for debate. Let Landlord voices be heard.

Excellent Ranjan. I had my reservations on your earlier article re the petition and disagreed with it but having heard your podcast on why we should be allowed to evict after 14 days, I fully agree with the petition which seems to achieving its goal very fast

The trouble is, Clint, that the general public will not be aware of, let alone listen to, Ranjan's podcast. The petition will merely bolster the 'all landlords are slum landlords' opinion.

I agree with what you say about the general public but, I don't believe the petition will make things any worse. The opinion of all landlords are already at rock bottom and, I believe that the petition is one way of fighting back or, at the very least, to give the government our opinion that, we don't intend on taking any more without fighting back.

If your happy to invest in a property which probably is worth between £100,000 to £ 200000. Give it to someone under a Tenancy agreement who`s terms and conditions which should protect you are now worthless. With no chance of getting your investment back for years> Allow someone to live at you expense for years. Damage your your property with no repercussions, Laugh at you when you try to get them to pay the rent. Where your losses can run into tens of thousand of pounds in legal fees and rental losses. And are happy to never be considered by the Government , and local Authorities as nothing but a cash cow . Then don`t Sign.
What Ranjan is trying to do is to start a ripple that may get your voice heard. The NRLA who should be representing your interests don`t seem to be in any measurable way effective.

I still feel it will, if the 14 day rule isn't dropped, be counter productive. I will not sign.

Sorry Clint, if a weakened opponent keeps on fighting, the enemy kicks him even harder until he stops moving or shoots him in the head. If you think it can't get worse for private landlords, it can!

There is not one chance in ten trillion that the Government will allow evictions after 14 days of arrears. All the petition will do is galvanise those who hate the PRS.

I agree it would be a miracle if the government allowed evictions after 14 days but I believe, it would make them think twice if they were thinking of increasing the length of time when one could apply for an eviction which is now 6 months.

I totally agree, the Eviction process needs to be overhauled. It's only crafty Tenants that think they can beat you and in the end you loose your temper with them and do something really silly. You then pay for this.

Classic own goal I'm afraid Ranjan - yes the whole system needs an overhaul - even pre-covid with a faster dedicated court & bailiff service, but this just gives Ammo to the Anti-Landlord Brigade. I can just see the headlines Callous Landlords want to evict after just 2 weeks late with rent!

Also your "headline" of bad for Landlords & Tenants doesn't wash, why is the current system bad for Tenants? 12-18M "free" accommodation !
