With celebrations usually consisting of an illustrious evening of fine dining and entertainment to announce the winners, this year announcements were made virtually. It has never been more important to ensure we continue to celebrate the very best in the property investment sector.
On Wednesday 24th November, thirteen deserving winners were announced across a range of different categories, representing a diverse and prestigious set of candidates across many areas of the property investment industry.
The winners are as follows:
Words from the Winners
Commercial Property Conversion of the Year, Andy Babbayan: “We are delighted to have won the Commercial Property Conversion of The Year. The changes & extension of permitted development rights has enabled us to carry out more commercial conversions to be able to produce great quality HMOs. The relative sq ft values mean that there is a true arbitrage opportunity & we are truly regenerating the town & city centres. There is a lot of redundant space above retail units that are now being brought back into use. This would not be possible without our fantastic team at Target Five who all share our passion for creating excellent, quality homes for our residents..”
New Property Investor of the Year, Max Rayner: “I am absolutely over the moon to have won the Young Property Investor of the year award! Credit also evenly due to my business partner and other half of Stuart Clinton Property, Alex Baker who is the same age. I am sure you have all heard of the saying ‘Good things come to those who wait’ – However, the ‘Truly great things come to those that DON’T wait’. Last year Alex and I took the leap of faith, the timing wasn’t perfect and we did not feel 100% ready, but putting our backs against the wall unleashed the true greatness hidden within. It was the best decision we ever made which forced us to grow, adapt and overcome any hurdle that stood in our way. Now look at what we have achieved! Thank you Property Investors Awards for recognising the tireless work that we have put in to serve the members of the community that truly need it the most”
HMO Property Investor of the Year, Luke Spikes: “In any year there are always memorable moments that serve as a reminder of what an outstanding team is capable of accomplishing. And winning this award is without doubt one of those moments. At higgihaus we’ve had our heads down over the past year delivering on our coliving, coworking and aparthotel mission. To have that work recognised by our friends and colleagues across the industry with such a prestigious national award makes the hard work and sacrifice worthwhile. This one is for the team!”
Property Deal of the Year, Malkit Purewal: “2021 has been a challenging year with many factors out of our control. However, to come out at the end of the year with an award is a great achievement and extremely rewarding for the whole Savoys team. We would like to thank the hard work put in by the whole Savoys team in a challenging environment and we look forward to continue to push to higher standards. In addition, thank our families and friends in supporting us with our property journey.”
Property Development of the Year, James Pritchett: “Myself and everyone at Greencore Construction are delighted to win this prestigious award. It has been our goal for the last 8 years to show the mainstream that net-zero houses can be built beautifully and without compromise. To be recognised for the ‘Property development of the year’ is fantastic as it’s not just about our sustainable credentials. That’s important as the narrative used to be ‘eco-homes’ were compromised either because of aesthetics, cost or they were too difficult to build. We’ve shown that this isn’t the case. We’ve recently launched our plan to build 500 Climate Positive houses in Oxfordshire over the next 5 years and aim to improve the sustainability and reduce the environmental impact of each new project.”
HMO Property Deal of the Year (Over 6 Rooms), Claire Farrington: “We are honored upon receiving the award from the property investor awards for HMO deal of the year (over 6 rooms) although it is for deal of the year, our 44 bed HMO has taken over 2 and a half years in the making and the amount of people involved to create, build and let is just as mega as the building itself! We couldn’t have done it without the team and not forgetting our partners and children who have been there for the ride. We at Farrington Properties love to take the meaning of HMO to the next level!”
Words from the Judges
We asked the judges what they were looking for in an award winning nomination application.
Helen Chorley, esteemed property expert and key part of the Property Elevator series: “As a new judge this year, I was delighted by the calibre of applicants and the level of detail in their applications. These are serious awards and the winners really took this to heart. I particularly enjoyed considering the 2 new categories this year, Young Property Investor of the Year (under age 28) and Co-Living Deal of the Year. The Young Property Investor award proves that age and experience are no barriers to success in property investment and I stand by property as a brilliant way to create the life you want and the earlier the better!”
Jay Howard, Director of Hammered Auctions: “It is my belief that in order to apply for the Property Investor Awards, you must as an Investor/Developer know that what you are doing is above and beyond the ordinary, Something that merits an accolade of this magnitude. This is my second year as a judge and I absolutely love not just looking at property deals, but getting to see behind the deal and look at what the applicant has done differently, or what series of things they have done differently in order to take their deal from the ordinary to the extraordinary. There are some truly very intelligent things being done by Investor/Developers in today’s market, whilst also making or providing quality housing and better standards of living to the population at large.”
Founder of the Awards, Cyril Thomas: “The consistent growth in applicants to the Property Investors Awards is a testament to the hard work and creative talent on display by investors year on year. We continue to be impressed by the quality of deals presented by our applicants in what has been an uncertain climate for investors over the past year. Again, I’d like to thank all of our partners, judges, and sponsors for helping to make this year’s awards such an outstanding success and we look forward to celebrating with you all again in person at our new venue for the Property Investors Awards 2022.
