TenantTax Summit Report and Action Plan

Myself and Steve Bolton would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the Tenant Tax Summit in London.

It was an amazing day with around 600 landlords and industry stake-holders in attendance.

Agendas and differences were put aside for the great good of landlords!

Property Tribes were able to get two fantastic “star power” interviews with Cherie Blair MBE and Lord Howard Flight.

My co-claimant Steve Bolton, explained the aim of the event and how landlords can get involved:

Stephen Johnson, M.D. of Shawbrook Bank and supporters of the Summit, gave a talk on BTL lending trends.

Gold medal Olympian, Kriss Akabusi closed the proceedings with a hugely inspirational talk about the importance of team work and what can be achieved when everyone in the team believes in the end outcome.

You can find a full review of the event on Property Industry Eye:

Hundreds cram into rally protesting against landlords’ change of tax treatment

A “social media kit” has also been prepared and we would like to urge all Property118 members to support the distribution of it.

It is believed that 97% of the U.K.’s 2 million landlords have 3 properties or less and are likely not engaged on landlord issues on a daily basis. These are the landlords we need to make aware of Section 24 and bring their vast numbers into our campaign!

Below, we have created a social media press kit for you to use:

The four key platforms recommended to be used are:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIN
  • Forums and communities such as moneysavingexpert.com, fool.co.uk, etc.

We need you to create content, share content, and amplify content to reach as many landlords as possible.

To make this as easy as possible, we have created a raft of ready-made status up-dates for you to share across the web – especially Facebook and twitter.

Simply cut and paste the below messages onto your timelines:

I believe Lord Flight is correct when he says MPs are largely unaware of Clause 24, still less the potential devasting impact on housing supply and the incomes of small hard working business people providing an essential service.

We landlords could start by giving it its proper title, "Clause 24 of the Finance Act 2015" (even I had to go away and look it up!). If any MPs are reading this, their first thought will be "Clause 24? What's that? I dunno, I've got more urgent stuff to deal with!". By spelling it out clearly, at least they know what to look for on the House of Commons database.

Clause 24 is just one part of the Act, and when MPs voted on it I believe most of them just thought they voting about VAT etc.
