Shelter ask for Landlords views

Two Property118 members have pointed out that Shelter are actually asking for views from Landlords and have produced a survey to complete: Click Here.

The request from Shelter states: “Take our survey to help us understand what’s important to you and how we can best work together towards developing a better private rental sector. Answers are completely anonymised.”

Questions include:

  • What were your motivations for becoming a landlord?
  • What are the best things about being a landlord?
  • What are the main challenges you face as a landlord?
  • How would you describe your relationship with your tenants?
  • How do you think Shelter can work better with landlords?
  • What has been your experience of Shelter?

We all hope this can be used as a positive step for Shelter and the PRS to start working together as opposed to against each other to the benefit of tenants.

I mentioned S24 because you brought up "read Shelter's aims".
It shows that you have to judge by what they do, not what they say.
It also shows that
- they are (were) anti-private-landlord, as there were NO BENEFITS AT ALL to tenants, just increased costs to LLs that ultimately get passed on to tenants.
- they do not consider (or if they do, they do not care about) the negative consequences for Ts of their campaigns (not unique to them; Which? also has this problem with consumer issues).

If they now genuinely want to hear and consider the good LL side of the story, then that is great.
But they need to engage directly with the big landlords, such as Mick Roberts, not just the LL associations, because associations only have limited knowledge of the issues; it is day-to-day experience that needs to be communicated.

When you say you couldn`t you believe she did that? .

Is that A) because you are so impressed that your friend successfully retrieved the 4K arrears in a month or so rather than have to wait 15 years @ £5 per week to be paid back . ?

Or is it B) because you feel your friend acted in a somewhat underhand manner that you yourself would not have acted in, in that you felt it wasnt morally right of her to apply for the 3rd party order but should have instead waited for 15 years to get paid back @ £5 per week which he stated was all he could afford ?

Brilliant. They go nuts as soon as we get what is owed to us.
I've had similar when HB has paid too much for some arrears & should have gone to tenant.

Amelia' husband talks to Shelter. Shelter ask about my involvement with P118.
Amelia. Stop insulting landlords with your Shelter garbage.
Ps the latest from Shelter is their CEO tweeting about 'sex for rent'. This is beyond the pale as if landlords up and down the land are sexual preditors. Their anti landlord campaign has gone too far and The Alliance has worked and will continue to work non stop to expose these charlatans. We are currently contacting all of their sponsors.
Ps Amelia would you like to join the Alliance.

Exactly Monty and Shelter are the cheer leaders for the abolition of Section 21.
Amelia may be bored of talking about Shelter because its getting too hot.
The Alliance is not bored talking about shelter and we will call them out non stop for their constant attacks on Landlords. We will never stop until such time as Shelter stop. Keep attacking landlords Shelter and you keep recruiting for us👍👍.

Reply to the comment left by ameliahartman at 23/06/2019 - 02:03"You need to be telling Shelter this. My husband has informed them of this forum, and that I have been involved in discussions on here, but they aren’t interested."
If true, then that just about sums up why LLs here mistrust Shelter.
If Shelter really want to understand LL's side of the story and work with them to improve the T's lot, then they would look at what we are saying here, consider what is valid (from their perspective) and engage in constructive critical discussion of the issues we have raised that they disagree with.

Reply to the comment left by Michael Barnes at 23/06/2019 - 15:36I would say there is 99% chance of a employee/ volunteer being tasked by Shelter to monitor and lurk on this major property site as well as other property forums . Especially as they have just launched their LL`s QA
Also political parties of all persuasions and other high profile housing related organisations interested in assessing and following the PRS`s mood will tap in each day as part of their DD. Just as the PRS taps into Shelters thinking and highlights their current thinking. Its a two way thing. Coming into the lions den though while relations are so hostile probably wont happen as this is not the right set up at this time . I can empathise with that sentiment .
It may come in time but not yet
