Selective Licensing flaws in Walsall West Mids being ignored!

I have been following with interest the issues that Mick Roberts is facing in Nottingham with this unfair scheme called selective licensing!

Walsall Council have recently ratified a scheme at cabinet level. This was called into scrutiny by other council members, who are opposed to it. I attended that meeting and again outlined how the scheme is flawed on lack of consultation with landlords. (no individual landlords have been contacted).

They say that they have consulted the NLA, RLA, Midland landlord accreditation scheme, neighbouring authorities, however, we are close to proving this to be false!

We have engaged with a local expert in this field, who has pulled the flawed process apart. A report by this person, which was commissioned by the Walsall Landlord Steering Group, was also presented to the council, (copy available), however, we have a feeling that everything that we have pointed out will be ignored and the scheme will be ratified at Cabinet, set for Monday 19/3/18.

We are now raising awareness among affected landlords with the intention of making a legal challenge.
Our letting agency L&A Lettings Limited has 49 affected properties.

Anyone out there that has previous experience? We feel that our case will be solid.

Please comment below if you are affected and can assist.

Lyndon

Lyndon, The same is happening in Luton where the local council is trying to push Selective Licensing in, without a recognised consultation period. We would also appreciate a copy of the report you had commissioned, to see if this would assist in stopping this scheme in its tracks, before it has started. Please email to Yvette@ultimateconnexions.co.uk

I’ve sent a copy of the original report to everyone, we’ve now had an opportunity to do more digging and research- a second report has also been sent to you.

Anti-Licensing for Landlords group ?
There's a number of members posting on this group that have expended energy and hold a deep interest in the manner and indiscriminate way that licensing is being introduced ( Lyndon, Yvette and others )
- so, I wonder if there was merit in forming an Action group.
Within such a group, we could pool our resources and focus on either an individual or small number of schemes to scrutinize their process or manner in which the scheme has been operated, perhaps submit several FOI's to probe their housing enforcement performance, pre and post licensing.
On the principle of 'more heads are better than one' - what's the interest for such a group. ?
If allowed by the forum, I'd invite those interested in discussing further to contact me via email.

As a number of schemes will be due for review/consultation prior to applying to have new schemes approved for another 5 years, I'd be happy to join a group which fights for sensible licensing (or scrapping of schemes!). We're buying a property in an area with SL where we already hold an SL license and will have to pay £350/£750 for a license that expires in Sept 2020 so will only be valid for just over 2 years.

Can you Landlords please sign this & forward to all your contacts.
A small hope, we have to try anything & everything.

I'm sure we not get 10k signatures, but the more Licensing & Govt start to see these things, who knows.
