This article which looks at “Sealing in Baths and Shower Trays to avoid expensive leaks and also black mould.” is the fifth in a series of articles by bathroom water damage prevention specialist Steve Dalloway.

As an engineer working in the oil industry, some 20 years ago I started my rental property business as I had time between contracts.

I also had a bit of spare cash and the markets were turbulent, so I invested in bricks and mortar. It’s got to be the best decision I ever made without question.
The old saying, “necessity is the mother of all invention” is very true. I looked at what was available to seal in my bath to a tiled wall in my very old but newly refurbished rental property and came up very short.

What was out there in the DIY sheds was appalling and after trying a few products that really didn’t work, seal properly or keep the mould away I got frustrated. These non performing products are still available in the DIY sheds today 20 years on and they still don’t work.  How do they get away with it ?

So what could I do…………… ?

Well I designed something to solve my problem and it did.  20 years on my prototype is still in one of my 1st rentals and its still mould and leak free.

For 8 years after inventing this sealing system, I didn’t even give it a second thought. It worked just as I wanted it to and that was that.

It was only when another landlord saw it and wanted one I thought hang on, this could be a product that I could make and sell, so I did…….

Since then we have become sort of “Water Damage Prevention Specialists” if you like.

In 2002 I started Byretech Ltd and we had just 3 products and the whole ethos of the company was to prevent water damage in bathrooms. 10 years on we are a small but highly successful and profitable little company that trades online and sells not only our own designed products, but whatever we can source to help prevent water damage in bathrooms.

We help landlords, hotels and private individuals solve the irritating bathroom leaks and mould issues that cause damage and take the shine off a perfectly good quality bathroom space.

If anyone has questions, I’d be happy to answer them or offer advice on best practice.

My next article is about Sealing in Baths and Shower Trays to avoid expensive leaks and also black mould.

Its all about what you want the rails to do really, If you want it to stay up for a long time and look good for your tenants and not wear out then we have the solution. If its cost related, buy one from B&Q andreplace t every 18 months wne the tenants pull it off the wall.
