Saga insurance – leaking cistern not covered

Just be aware folks. I took out landlord home emergency cover with Saga which I was told covered plumbing, and electrical problems on a property I rent out.

I have never used it till now, but tenant reported leaking cistern. So I duly contacted emergency number to be told this is not covered.

Wrong type of leak apparently.

Will not be renewing.

Hi Alan,

I am sure they are great at holidays, but it is sound advice to always double check when purchasing from a company that don't specialise in that market.

Never ever deal with Saga
rip off prices and any insurance with them is way cheaper elsewhere!
I learned that years ago

I agree they seem to play on their over 50's brand conning people into thinking they must be getting a good deal. Their car insurance quote is always a joke, way more expensive than others. In fact they actually seem to penalise people for being of a certain age. I find Direct Line one of the more competitive insurers around.

Never dealt with Saga
I have always used Home Serve. They are slightly more expensive than their competitors but their service is excellent.
Beware of Smart Cover Insurance services. Worst homecare providers you are likely to EVER come across. Cover 365 days a year apart from weekends and tells my pregnant tenant to "grin & bare for the weekend". You have been warned.....

I was persuaded to take out a very expensive British Gas Landlord policy when I called them out for an emergency fix that my own plumber had identified during the gas safety check but was unable to do quickly. They did the repair and then refused to sign off the gas safety certificate unless I shelled out again. Luckily I was still within the cooling off period. My own gas man checked the works and signed the certificate at a fraction of the cost BG were charging.

I never take out insurance unless absolutely necessary/law as it's full of holes, hardly worth the paper it's written on! Save the money for repairs!

Insurance never covers the thing for which you are claiming. Best to cover your own insurance if you possibly can, but be sure to assign the premium you save to a separate account. The only insurance I have is for major catastrophe, fire, flood, earthquake. The latter actually happened in my town and a surprising number of people found that they were not covered.

Your pregnant tenant has already bared, and I trust grinned, now she must grin and bear.

I always do a search on various websites, including the direct insurers own sites that don't use third party search sites and the quotes vary from year to year. Funnily enough though, I have literally just renewed my car insurance and the cheapest by far was SAGA!

Just hope my car doesn't spring a plumbing leak!!
