SAFEagent is launching a ‘week of activity’ beginning on May 14th until 20th May, aimed at raising awareness of the scheme with tenants and landlords.

As part of the week there will be national and regional events to increase the knowledge of landlords- especially first-time landlords– and tenants of Client Money Protection Schemes and their importance. SAFEagent itself currently boasts more than 1800 letting agents.

John Midgely, chair of the SAFEagent steering group, said: “We have achieved a great deal of support since SAFEagent’s launch last year. SAFEagent Awareness Week will be a way of consolidating our efforts through a week long programme to promote the campaign to tenants and landlords and ensure that SAFEagent is top of consumers’ checklist of requirements when they look for a letting agent.”

The importance of using agents who are part of schemes like SAFEagent is further underlined with each story of unscrupulous letting agents disappearing with their clients’ money. Such stories have led to many calling for the lettings industry to be regulated.

The scheme has already received Government support as well as the support of influential organisations including the DPS, BPF, Guild of Letting and Management, TDS, Citizens Advice Bureau among others.

“We are very excited by the number of organisations who are already lending their support to this intensive week of activity and a full programme of events will be revealed shortly”, added Mr Midgely.
