In the ever-changing landscape of property development, it’s often hard to stand out from the crowd.

However, the Winter Melia Group led by directors Karl Winter and Phil Melia has emerged as a leading force in the industry.

The team has now received another award for 2023 Developer of the Year at the Property Investors Awards. The group previously won Property Investor of the Year and Property Development of the Year in 2020.

Focused on heritage property development, their results of blending historical and modern features into the properties really do speak for themselves.

The team recently completed a project which saw an 18th-century church transformed into 15 luxury one and two-bedroom homes.

Phil Melia explains more about the project: “The Spire is the perfect combination of historic details combined with modern living.

“Each apartment has a wide variety of space and features, all of which are complemented by modern finishings such as Crittall style glass screens overlooking duplex apartments, and Venetian plasterwork around the large communal space.

“Meanwhile, the design harnesses the heritage of the building by lighting up features such as stone columns, roof trusses, the pulpit, and of course, the large amount of stained glass throughout.”

Mr Melia explains the interesting name behind the project.

He adds: “We named this scheme The Spire which is a nod to the history of the building and ironic in the fact the keen-eyed will notice there is no spire on the turret, this was originally meant to be built in the 1800s but construction never commenced, we finally gave the building a Spire, if only by name.”

The team’s mission is rooted in a commitment to excellence.

Mr Melia said: “We have an ethos that we wouldn’t build something that we wouldn’t live in ourselves so we are constantly sourcing the latest styles, finishes and materials to keep on trend.

“Our model mixes the traditional with the modern sympathetically incorporating original features with modern textures and colours.”

The Winter Melia Group uses its own construction team when working on projects which Mr Melia says is a key to the group’s success.

He explains: “We have always used our own construction team which has grown with us as the business has scaled. Therefore, we can ensure quality is delivered as the team sees the growing vision and wants to be a part of it.

“We have a great working relationship with all our tradesmen which I believe is key to delivering a successful product and eliminating future problems occurring in ensuring things are done right the first time around.”

The Winter Melia Group have built a reputation in the property world for being one of the best and creating sustainable long-term use for historic buildings.
