Nottingham Licensing increased to a whopping £890!

For Landlords who don’t already know Nottingham Council has increased its licensing fee to a whopping £890 and tenants you really need to start standing up and shouting! There will be no houses left to rent soon.

They are charging £890 per house and an inspection only costs £77 and out of 32,000 houses they have only inspected 176.

Who’s paying for this? Tenants of course.

What have they done to deserve this if they already have a good house?

All of us landlords would support licensing if they inspected the houses. This not in the know would be horrified if they knew what the council was doing or not doing with the money that tenants have had to fork out for this. Meanwhile the actual  criminal landlords haven’t come forward obviously.

Our tenants can't afford £74 per month extra on their rent and we can't afford £267.000 per year if that was applied to all our properties ! luckily we have no properties in Nottingham and never will now but thats not to say other local authorities won't follow suit if we don't bring this to everyones attention now

I have 7 properties in nottingham and unfortunatly its the tenants that will pay in the end for this siege on landlords by the council.

I can't remember if Landlords Alliance is challenging these extortionate fees & licencing in general. Does anyone know?

What about Bristol where it’s nearer £1500? This whole situation is completely out of hand. It’s the councils way of making money and paying all those pensions.

Nottingham’s licensing fees are high but Bristol is even higher, charging £1200 for the new recently introduced five year Central Bristol Additional license. I got a discount of £150 for showing EPC and GSC etc, therefore paying £1050. I need to get 6 licenses.
The tenants will pay for them through higher rents.
I asked BCC why they have reportedly the fourth highest license fee in the country, the other 3 being London boroughs, they replied as such;
“I can not comment on why the cost of the licence is the 4th highest, we calculate our fees based on actual costs of administering the scheme.”
Sounds like a load of old baloney to me.
I’ve already suggested to them they really should start preparing for higher rents, less available properties to rent, increased homelessness and rough sleeping and therefore higher demands on BCCs social services.
They seem to be oblivious though and definitely give the impression they know best and are not believing or concerned there will be any unintended consequences, basically typical arrogant and uncaring local government.

That's what's happening Brian with Landlords in the know, they avoiding Nottingham like the Plague. And tenants can't get anywhere.

https://news.rla.org.uk/nottingham-licensing-scheme-a-farce/
They’ve issued 3% of Licenses in 16 months.
And apparently they've only done 176 inspections from approximately £9 million+ pounds in. Which equates to over £51,136.00 I repeat FIFTY ONE THOUSAND POUNDS AN INSPECTION. When Nottingham Aug 2018 said an Inspection cost should be £77.
Someone has worked out that the rate they going, they should take 76 years to get all current houses inspected. If u a Rogue Landlord, u gonna’ take the chance & not pay your fee as by the time the Council get to u, you probably won’t be here. Or in your nursing home not giving a hoot.

Also, I had an evicted gal (Cause of Licensing) go down Council Homeless yesterday. You should do some digging on this. They have to get there at 0830 with 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 kids & WAIT TILL 230PM TO GET HOTEL TICKET. And apparently go back every day to see where the hotel is the next night. Not knowing if they are going to Derby or Leicester hotel or Mansfield. If they get Nottingham, it's a bonus. This can be months, then it's council hostel for a year, then it's back to Private Rented if u fortunate. And at a more expensive rent than u couldn't afford last time.

For you Nottingham people:

This new increased License fee to £890 which Nottm Council are introducing only 17 months in of 5 years.
The Councillors, Linda Woodings etc. are meeting this Thurs 2pm Loxley House opposite Train Station to propose the new fee structure.
This is our last chance to go protest, moan etc. Room for 20, they will pull out more seats if more Landlords come.
Even better if tenants go as it's them it will be impacting on and if they spoke and told how bad it is for them to get accommodation now cause Landlords are selling cause of Licensing, who knows, the Council will listen to them more.

Please spread to Landlords and tenants, more the merrier. I'll be there, Empo will be there.
This is breaking some Landlords and they selling houses where tenants have been there 20 years. As Landlords know, it's not just the money, the horrendous admin and conditions of having to evict tenants who's had one baby too many or they've not cut the grass etc.
