Landlords – Who gets your vote?

Landlords – Who gets your vote?

Hi, Do landlords have a viable political home? It appears not. Historically the Conservative party has been the party of the landlord, permitting the market to control itself to a large extent. This is no longer the case.

Why? Because we have a left of centre conservative government (note the small c). The tail is wagging the dog and in an effort to win voters, they are alienating their core voters in their masses.

Who to vote for then? Certainly not Labour, we only need to look at the London Mayor to see the path they would lead us down. Rent controls, mandatory licencing and higher taxation (and that’s just the start).

Research papers initiated by the Labour Party have even gone as far as to state that compulsory purchase at (market rates!!!) should be considered as a way to bolster the stock of social housing. The Green Party – even further left than Labour and posing the same, if not, a greater level of risk to the Landlord.

I suspect the first initiative would be mandatory EPC Grade A’s all round irrespective of cost.

This leaves us with Reform UK, led by Richard Tice. I live in an area of the UK (Bury North) with the smallest margin between Conservative and Labour at the last election.

Recently our conservative (small c again) MP James Daly, wrote in the local press that his greatest concern at the next election was not Labour, but Reform UK.

I agree with him, our Local Labour candidate James Frith is seen locally as weak and unviable and unlikely to take many votes.

However, many people will make a statement vote for Reform UK, even if this increases the likelihood of Labour gaining a seat.

My question to you readers is, should we vote Reform in the knowledge that it will allow a Labour win or should we vote Conservative?

Should we be looking at sending a clear message to the conservative government that will hopefully make them take notice and restructure themselves as a Conservative party, centre right to win the following election?

Or should we vote Conservative in the hope of weakening an incumbent Labour government?

Or could the seemingly impossible happen and the nation elect Reform UK. This would, be the best result for Landlords.

What do you think?

Steve

Was referenced earlier in thread by OP. However have also read same on background in reputable sources. Look at the funding.

Tbh a quick read of the Home Page was enough to tell me they’re not for me. Any party that has a need to have a page peppered with phrases such as ‘stupid’, ‘woke’ and lots of statements with absolutely no substance in strategy or drill-down on policy is simply not for me.

I can see it’s target demographic that it’s tailored it’s rhetoric to; and needless to say, it certainly isn’t me.

I’ll vote for the Party that promises the best outcome for my country. It won’t be Conservative or Labour.

One day we will agree that democracy doesn’t work.

In the majority of democratic countries that used FPTP it has been replaced by PR, as FPTP is considered undemocratic - it leaves too many within its population unrepresented in the resulting Governments.
Electoral Reform to use PR would have prevented much of what’s gone wrong in the U.K. especially over recent years.
I believe in democracy. To be a true democracy though a country has to return Governments that represent how the majority of the electorate voted, not just a majority of a minority.
U.K. is increasingly considered an outlier with its retention of the archaic FPTP system, widely and increasingly considered by many countries to be a non-democratic system.
(Don’t get me started on unelected peerages, especially re those nominated by Truss and Johnson.)
Like you though I’ll vote for who I think will do best for the country overall. If a party has in its manifesto a pledge for electoral reform, then that’ll likely be a decision made for me. No-one person is an island etc etc

I couldn’t possibly vote for any of the Labour MPs. There are not many Conservative MPs that would get my vote either and I was a Party member for a number of years.

This time, it’s either Reform or the Greens.

I think we shouldn't be thinking about what they say but what they do. Anyone can say a load of stuff that sounds good. I want to have people in charge of this country who have achieved something in real life. That sort of rules out the Greens & Libdems as I'm not sure what most of them ever did, and untried parties like Reform sound like all talk to me, they can say all the right stuff but what did any of them ever actually achieve in their lives? maybe I am wrong but looks like the hot air fantasy party to me. So actually its Tories or Labour. Well both have done a certain amount to help in their time cos we never used to have this kind of crisis, they must have done something right. Starmer is clearly strong he has been knocking heads together, grabbed leadership of Labour, got to be DPP from a council house upbringing. Sunak has married a super-rich woman and made himself a billionaire which is impressive, but he seems out of control and with no ideas. And, like others here have said, the Conservatives are now falling apart before our eyes. So not an inspiring choice, but Starmer looks the most grown up of the bunch and Labour will get my vote, we certainly need a change.

I emailed 2 weeks ago and nothing so far except an auto received message. Shame cos' with a quick response and actual answers it would certainly go a long way to help their cause. But there you go nothing changes.

I 100% Agree, especially as they are not one of the main parties their priorities should be to engage with their constituents. like you said nothing changes.
