Landlords Alliance – Emergency Euro Elections Statement

The Landlords Alliance was set up to represent and fight for private landlords. We never planned or envisaged getting into politics; yet events have forced us to confront reality.

May’s failed administration wants to scrap Section 21s, which will create potential lifetime tenancies and prevent landlords from having control over their own property. Until and unless major changes are made firstly to the Section 8 process and the grossly inadequate court system, we cannot support this step.

It has become clear that the Government is not in fact interested in reforming the private rented sector in any positive way, but is rather chasing cheap headlines by pretending they are helping tenants.

In summary this useless Tory government is anti-business, anti-landlord and couldn’t care less about tenants on benefits, despite what they say. As from now we advise our Alliance members not to accept DSS tenants just as Shelter will not provide them with bonds. It is just too risky.

As of now, we do not know what policies the Brexit Party will have for the economy in general and the PRS in particular, but the signs are good and we are ready to give the Brexit Party a chance. After Thursday’s European elections we intend to approach the Brexit Party to solicit their support for the sector.

We urge landlords, their families and friends to respond in the strongest terms to the latest assault on the sector, with May’s announcement of the scrapping of Section 21. We will not stand by as property rights are annihilated.

I have spoken today to a landlord who has eight tenants who agree with him and who are going to vote for the Brexit Party on Thursday. They understand that this is an attack on landlords and tenants. Let’s get the Brexit Party over the line on Thursday. Then we are on new ground, as victory should give them momentum to win or hold the balance of power in a General Election.

Until now landlords have had no choice and nowhere to go. Perhaps that’s why the Tories thought they could take us for granted. Well, we now have a viable alternative, so they have grossly miscalculated.

If we get out Thursday and work with our tenants, we can give this rotten Tory party a good hiding. Let’s finally show this pathetic government that their campaign against us has hit the buffers.

They have destroyed their core constituency of voters and any prospect of Conservatives getting the tenant vote will dissolve when they are unable to find accommodation. We must explain to every DSS tenant that we turn away: THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT!

We urge all landlords to back Brexit Party candidates against Conservatives everywhere.

It out to be an easy decision for LLs to vote Brexit party in European elections, it's only s protest vote against the government against it policies on PRS.
If the Brexit party do well then they need to come up with vote winning policies for a general election.
Then the dilemma will be, are they strong enough to take office and beat the Tories, or will they split the vote and give a Marxist office....
Or, will the dynamic rise of the Brexit party, make the Tories change course on the PRS, if it does, objectives are then achieved through tactical voting!

Landlords can't do worse that ' NOT ' voting Tory or Labour - They've got a rope and a noose for Landlords.
Only difference is the speed each party finds a tree !

The Policy of the Alliance is simple. We advise Landlords, their families, tenants and friends not to vote Tory. Obviously nobody should vote for Corbyn and his dated failed socialist anti semitic vile policies. That only leaves the Brexit party and the Lib Dems. Our question to both these parties is simple. What do you offer and how do you wish to bid for the votes of 2M voters. We are no longer Tory voters. We are ready to be persuaded. Over to you.

I think the best Jezza could hope for is a shared Govt with the Brexit party,
although I hope Labour doesn't even get that far !

Hi All, now when you have results you wanted, I am looking forward to Great Nigel's pro landlord policies. Actually ANY Brexit Party policies. I am not holding my breath, though.... I know lots of you voted for him. I hope those votes will not be lost. Looking forward to updates on this forum, please. Thank you.

Hi whiteskifreak,
We will shortly be sending an explanatory group email to members. Please bear with us and we have a very important statement to make which we cannot release yet as talks are ongoing. I promise this news is good and should alleviate your doubts about the approach we took on the brexit party. Thank you very much for joining us and let us not let the Brexit issue divide landlords.

In case you missed it;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brexit_Party#cite_note-35
The party's constitution was published by the Electoral Commission as a result of a freedom of information request in May 2019.[35] It describes the party as seeking to
"promote and encourage those who aspire to improve their personal situation and those who seek to be self-reliant, whilst providing protection for those genuinely in need; favour the ability of individuals to make decisions in respect of themselves; seek to diminish the role of the State; lower the burden of taxation on individuals and businesses."
Nothing in there about taxing businesses on turnover rather than profit.

What really REALLY irritates me about people declaring that it's democracy is that they at one and the same time insist that, years later and so very much better informed, people are not entitled to have another say.

What's even remotely democratic about that?

People make decisions that they regret and then change their minds all the time.

Why has this suddenly become "illegal" just because people voted - absent of nearly all the facts about the true reality of what lay ahead - several years ago?

Because under the normal rules of democracy, such a decision would be taken from a point *within* the reality of the result of the first outcome. How. Do. You. Know. It. Won’t. Be. Vastly. Better?
