And the landlord vote goes to – Please vote again

Editors note: The voting form has recently been set up again so you can only cast one vote. Dr Beck would be most grateful if you could vote again if you haven’t already. Many thanks.

In recent months there has been much speculation about a general election being called early. I would like to get an idea of landlords’ voting intentions – which I then aim to relay to politicians. So could you please select out of the options below?

It would also then be very helpful if you could expand on your answers below in the comments section. You don’t have to answer each of the following points – just those you want to.
For example, if you have switched allegiance or you haven’t, could you give your reasons? Could you also give your thoughts on what you think of each party and their policies and attitude towards the private rented sector? You may also vote for a party for other reasons, unrelated to your role as a landlord, so it would also be interesting if you explained that.

I would also be interested in your insights into what you think your tenants might vote, if you have any idea or just your general thoughts on how you think the Government’s and Opposition’s approach to the PRS is likely to affect tenants’ voting patterns – particularly, whether you think that the Government’s recent assault on the sector is likely to gain them the ‘tenant vote.’

This could be important in terms of advocating for our sector, so please take part.

Well my last night assumptions as to who the guilty culprits for manipulating Ros’s poll were correct. I genuinely didn’t look last night, but I have now checked the troll’s HQ / forum. A few of them voted multiple times after refreshing this web page. 🙄

Given that it was so simple 4 the trolls to do that, would it be worth making voting rights on future polls only accessible AFTER the voter has logged in?

Then again ... those (three dozen?) guys usually appear literally anywhere and everywhere online that’s vaguely PRS related, so I wouldn’t be surprised if between the 36 of them they also have multiple P118 user accounts to enable them to they vote, even if a poll was restricted.

I'm not a great fan of the Conservatives, but the current Labour opposition with their ideology of hate fills me with a great despondency as to just how bad the onslaught of 'anti' legislation in going to be.

I have to agree with Laura's sentiments exactly. I have seen too many conservative governments having to pick up the pieces after labour have virtually bankrupted the country. The ideas being floated by John McDonnell lead me to the same conclusion she and her husband have come to.

I have some sympathy for Teresa May. She has been strung along by the now not so faceless bureaucrats of the EU who have no intention of giving up any of their power to any member state and are making us look like laughing stocks on the World Stage. Look at what happened to Greece, Denmark, Eire and Italy. Do you think they would alter their game plan for us? Dream on! So, we must make a clean break from the EU and operating on WTO arrangements will make us more competitive anyway. I voted to leave because when I voted to join the 'Common Market' all those years ago we did not foresee the monster that it would become under the leadership and guidance of Tony Blair and all the rest. I am all for a Common Market. So, just walk away and leave them to it. Alexander the Great had the right idea, he cut the knot that he was supposed to untie with a sword and carried on and ruled the known world at that time and he was a Greek! So let us put the 500+ page Leave Obligations in the shredder and buy our cars from Japan or the USA and see what the Germans do then poor things. They'll Audi, VW and Mercedes up to us quickly enough when a third of their car industry is put on very short time. Buy British cars I say (even if they are Japanese) and slap some huge tariffs on the EU's exports to us as we are a net importer from Europe any way.
Let us get some balls and walk away with no deal as no deal is far better than the deal on offer which is a no deal for us but a great deal for the EU bureaucrats who can continue to collect their huge salaries and pensions (Yes that's you Mr and Mrs Kinnock and all your failed political mates who have taken us for fools for so may years) and are laughing at us who actually have to make a living and know what it is like to have a real job. And yes, Landlording is a real job and should be treated as such and Clause 24 should be removed and our industry treated like all the others. The punitive tax situation we now face must be removed PDQ or the PRS will fail otherwise and where will those in need of homes be then! Standing outside Parliament in YELLOW VESTS perhaps?!

I would vote for an inconsequential "other" in order not to be classified as couldn't be bothered. I would much rather vote "none of the above" but of course they dare not offer that option...which would be much closer to democracy that the current system. I previously voted Tory but feel it is like turkeys voting for Xmas.

I have voted Conservative all my life but I am not impressed by their current performance. However the alternative is frightening so I would have to vote for them again as a strategic vote to keep out the others.

Hi Terry, you may be right. I was trying to be a little fair minded as she was handed the poison chalice by Cameron who 'did a runner' in a most undignified way. However, she did pick it up and decided to run with it. So, I agree more that take issue with you.

Landlords voting for Corbyn and his crew does not make any sense whatsoever - even if you do hate or feel let down by the Conservatives.

I have to agree completely with Alan R. To vote for Corbyn and his crew would be the biggest mistake of a lifetime. Corbyn is a MARXIST and so are most of his immediate supporters unless of course they are prepared to get special treatment for their children by sending them to private schools as some of his followers do. I have no problem with sending children to private schools but should not they (his followers), more than most, be supporting the state sector and refusing to let poor standards blight the lives of children in underperforming schools. MARXISTS are not there to support the poor and downtrodden, as Mr Stalin showed us so clearly, they are there for power and self promotion to power. I do not believe in equality of outcomes, a stupid policy as we are not all equal, but I do believe in equality of opportunity. I also believe in fairness and humanity but not to the extent of helping people who have no intention of working and whose lifestyle choice is to live off the state. We must all be given an equal chance to start the race but it is obvious that the best will come in ahead of the rest of the field. Today there are a multiplicity of work opportunities and someone who is good in one area will not be best in another. That is obvious and the smartest and hardest working help improve the lives of us all.

Capitalism is only fair way to allow everyone the chance to succeed, as who knows where the great ideas of the future will come from. I am against patronage and the old boy network, which is the same thing as party membership and privilege.

So, landlords, unite against the Corbyn led labour party (I don't think Corbyn ever had a 'proper' job in his life) as it is no longer the Labour Party it used to be. They are self seeking MARXISTS who hide behind a smoke screen purporting to be there for the benefit of the people. Believe me, they are NOT!
