And the landlord vote goes to – Please vote again

Editors note: The voting form has recently been set up again so you can only cast one vote. Dr Beck would be most grateful if you could vote again if you haven’t already. Many thanks.

In recent months there has been much speculation about a general election being called early. I would like to get an idea of landlords’ voting intentions – which I then aim to relay to politicians. So could you please select out of the options below?

It would also then be very helpful if you could expand on your answers below in the comments section. You don’t have to answer each of the following points – just those you want to.
For example, if you have switched allegiance or you haven’t, could you give your reasons? Could you also give your thoughts on what you think of each party and their policies and attitude towards the private rented sector? You may also vote for a party for other reasons, unrelated to your role as a landlord, so it would also be interesting if you explained that.

I would also be interested in your insights into what you think your tenants might vote, if you have any idea or just your general thoughts on how you think the Government’s and Opposition’s approach to the PRS is likely to affect tenants’ voting patterns – particularly, whether you think that the Government’s recent assault on the sector is likely to gain them the ‘tenant vote.’

This could be important in terms of advocating for our sector, so please take part.

Many of the comments demonstrate the problem with the "first past the post" system - it leaves vast swathes of the electorate without proper representation at a national level and makes it virtually impossible for minority parties to have any impact at all. The best they can hope for is to hold the balance of power or join a coalition but look what happened to the LIb Dems - a few years of influence followed by virtual annihilation. The trouble is that all other forms of democracy have their drawbacks and in the end it is ours that probably gives the best chance of stable government. I usually vote for the individual rather than the party, bearing in mind that MPs are supposed to represent the best interests of all their constituents and some will do this better than others.

A pox on all their houses. I feel for Theresa May, landed into a job with directions in which she did not believe, hounded by a self serving mob of smug, unemployable 'colleagues,' most of whom have never, for obvious reasons, held down a proper job. As for J Corbyn, any LL who even considers voting for him must be of unsound mind, turkeys voting for Christmas might be a suitable analogy. I think as a matter of self preservation only that I shall again vote Tory, if only for lack of a reasonable alternative.

I cant believe anyone could vote tory again after all the heartache they have caused. Being an ex miner you would probably expect that from me , but if you lived in a village or town ravaged by the tories maybe you would understand. The village l lived in is now a ghost town minus pit, sewing factory , pubs we used to call locals. I may be living in the past but we now have more MPs, peers being paid to rip this country apart .
Memories dont win votes but decimating peoples lives dont either.

Cons have screwed the opportunities of our children, grand children and great grandchildren by having the Brexit vote to appease a minority of their MPs. And are continuing to squabble amongst themselves rather than put the nation first.
labour would screw the opportunities and lifestyle of the rest of us.
That leaves a third party for me.
In my area that is likely to mean LibDem, but if a reasonable independent stands, then ...

I vote for the Conservatives as I believe they are nearer to Capitalism than any other party and it is only Capitalism which I believe works. As Ian has said all parties go towards socialism. I think the Conservatives are very much like how Churchill described democracy, ‘Democracy is the worse form of government except for all the others’.

The problem with abstention is it gets you nowhere and whatever government you get .......
If you don't have a political party you follow, then judge the candidates, unfortunately my sitting MP is Alok Sharma, nuff said. I too dread the idea of Mr Corbin getting power given the guff he's come out with about the PRS.

But I do like Dave's idea of "no suitable candidate" particularly if it automatically deducted a vote from each contending party. Couple that with a minimum positive vote level before a candidate can take their seat etc..... ( if only)!

As for my tenants, if they vote, it will be for whichever party they perceive, rightly or wrongly, will give them the best money in their pocket now. If rent and a roof over their heads was of paramount importance they might budget better.

Would vote conservative and feel aggrieved at having to do so but it's the only chance of keeping the dangerous Corbyn and his cronies out. A vote for anyone else is throwing a vote away at best (It's a two horse race), and at worst is dangerous as could allow labour in- frightening. Conservatives sold us out, labour want to crucify us, UKIP no serious policy only a thinly veiled racist National Front , lib dems- hold on whilst I laugh. I would suck it up and vote tory, much as it may stick in my throat
