And the landlord vote goes to – Please vote again

Editors note: The voting form has recently been set up again so you can only cast one vote. Dr Beck would be most grateful if you could vote again if you haven’t already. Many thanks.

In recent months there has been much speculation about a general election being called early. I would like to get an idea of landlords’ voting intentions – which I then aim to relay to politicians. So could you please select out of the options below?

It would also then be very helpful if you could expand on your answers below in the comments section. You don’t have to answer each of the following points – just those you want to.
For example, if you have switched allegiance or you haven’t, could you give your reasons? Could you also give your thoughts on what you think of each party and their policies and attitude towards the private rented sector? You may also vote for a party for other reasons, unrelated to your role as a landlord, so it would also be interesting if you explained that.

I would also be interested in your insights into what you think your tenants might vote, if you have any idea or just your general thoughts on how you think the Government’s and Opposition’s approach to the PRS is likely to affect tenants’ voting patterns – particularly, whether you think that the Government’s recent assault on the sector is likely to gain them the ‘tenant vote.’

This could be important in terms of advocating for our sector, so please take part.

If, like me, you feel that none of the candidates is worth your vote, how about writing "none of the above" on your ballot paper and your point is made?

The trouble with not voting is that the politicians will never have a real clue as to the views of the electorate.

Just voted and looking at the results. It is extremely worried that the split between Lab and Cons is almost identical. That means the same number of LLs here will vote the horrible Conservatives and the country-ruining Labour. I absolutely concur with Mark A. As much as I have the Cons for their anti-landlord policy - Comrade Corbynov will send the PRS (as well as economy, NHS an pretty much everything else) to an abyss for a long 5 years, if not more. He is the greatest danger to this country, even greater than Brexshit.

If labour 'get in' most businesses will do a runner abroad = mass unemployment = many L/lords will sell up = house price tumble = more homeless = wasteland, simple!

My late father in law used to say: "It doesn't matter who you vote for, they are all Socialists". Even some of the comments on this thread reveal that landlords expect the Government to sort out everyone's problems.

I have a lot of sympathy for Ronald Reagan's quip that the most frightening words in the English language are "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help."

Hi Whiteskifreak, see Rosalind's post. The poll may have been hijacked by Leftists.

Yes, the Conservatives have been attacking the PRS but a Labour government under Corbyn would put us in a worse situation. Therefore, without much enthusiasm and not much hope for a bright future, I would have to vote Conservative. In order to implement some of his more extreme hard-left loony ideas, Corbyn needs us to be out of the EU. Let's get Brexit out of the way before we start worrying too much which bunch of clowns is going to run our wonderful country.

I have voted Conservative for over 40 years ie in every election since I was old enough to vote but never again. Really never again. They have turned into a party who will swing whatever way they think will win them a few extra votes and in doing so have abandoned their principles and their traditional voters. I cannot forgive them for what they have done to landlords. I have been disenfranchised, there is no party I identify with so would have to abstain.

Totally agree but would suggest that if all the folk who feel this way did mark their ballot "none of the above", the number of spoilt ballot papers would rise to, I suspect, a significant enough number for someone to take notice and then maybe, just maybe, there will be a real tick box on the ballot for "none of the above" and hopefully combine that with a legal obligation to vote, like they have in Australia.

At present, it seems, we have representation (almost) without votes.

My husband & I voted Conservative & would again but only because we are scared of Labour getting in with the likes of Jeremy Corbyn & John McDonell at the helm. We worked too hard inputting 14 hour days for many years in order to save/invest in building our portfolio, with a much sacrificed lifestyle en route, and cannot sit by & let it be taxed to death. Therefore if G_d forbid Labour got in, my husband & I have already decided we'd sell our portfolio & emigrate as we believe Labour would introduce a tax levy on property i.e. a form of wealth tax, in particular on second homes & investment property & as one cannot move these assets offshore unlike other types of investments, we would rather sell up & get rid of the head/heartache that the Labour party would impose on us on top of the headache already imposed by the Tory government.
