Is a vote for Reform the logical choice for landlords?

Is a vote for Reform the logical choice for landlords?

I’d appreciate your thoughts because it seems to me that the only realistic hope for landlords teaching the two major political Parties a lesson is to vote Reform in the hope of a Labour  / Reform coalition. Surely that would put the cat among the pigeons!

Reform appears to me to be the only UK political party happy to fight for landlords and lower rates of tax.

Am I missing something?

I found this on their website

HOUSING

The UK population has grown by over 1.3 million in just 2 years. Yet only 425,000 homes have been built. The Office of National Statistics forecast the population to grow by nearly 7 million between 2021 and 2036, putting huge pressure on housing.

Mass immigration is the main factor in this. Other factors that have damaged housing supply are overly bureaucratic planning regulations that delay decisions and add huge cost.

Critical reforms needed in the first 100 days:

Housing tick

Review the Planning System.
Fast track planning and tax incentives for development of brownfield sites, including unused offices and vacant high street properties. Review system of Section 106 Developer Contributions for infrastructure such as schools and surgeries to accelerate house building.

Housing tick

Reform Social Housing Law.
Prioritise local people and those who have paid into the system. In parts of the UK almost half of all social housing is occupied by someone born overseas. Foreign nationals must go to the back of the queue. Not the front.

Housing tick

Scrap the 2019 Tax Changes for Landlords.
The tax system should encourage smaller landlords into the rental markets. Not penalise them.

Housing tick

Abolish the Renters’ (Reform) Bill.
Existing legislation was adequate to address bad practices. Instead, we will boost the monitoring, appeals and enforcement process.

Thereafter:

Housing tick

Incentivise Use of New Construction Technology.
Such as modular construction, and smart infrastructure.

Housing tick

More Homegrown Qualified Traders.
New apprenticeships and vocational courses will increase the supply of skilled, well-paid workers to replace cheap overseas labour.

Housing Pledges Costs = £ Neutral

It's 'populism', and is where the EU is heading in every election. EU Parliament, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Hungary... If those Parties were campaigning here, they would be ostracised like Reform UK. But they will hold the reins of power across Europe very soon, and if Trump is re-elected, the UK really will be the outlier. I wonder how Labour will take to having to work with these awful countries!

Me too. REFORM is the only feasible alternative to Labour. Tories are Labout-lite.

I have a problem or two with voting for Reform.
They are a privately owned company, not a political party. They have no real manifesto. They have pledged more unfunded tax cuts and spending than Liz Truss did, and we all know what happened there.
Finally why would you vote for someone who has openly stated they will be a nuisance in Parliament if elected. How does that help run the country?
This is classic Farage, target sections of the electorate and make their voting decision about one thing that effects them only. I agree the political parties are not doing much for us, but I cannot vote for that man. With Reform it's vote for Farage not a political party - he is trying to replicate the republican / Trump situation. Buyer Beware!

Anybody can join the Reform party and contribute. The fact is the other parties are not offering anything new and they are too similar to each other. Yes they always promise lots of things when it is election time and then it seems to never materialise, or other things happen that were not declared, Labour being a case in point. They will not increase taxes on xyz, but what are they going to tax that they are not telling? Maybe vote for an independent if you have that choice where you live and you agree with them. The whole political system is out of date.

On that basis, Reform is effectively Independent. Change needs to start somewhere. Someone needs to hold Starmer's feet to the fire in Parliament and create waves in the media for the next few years as Labour fails to deliver. Farage does that better than anyone, and the Tories can't.

The only person who actually answers the interviewers answer is Farage. He is prepared to say YES or NO, you might not like what he says but he does answer the question. Other party representative plough on with pre-ordained answers that often have little to do with the question.

Reply to the comment left by GlanACC at 25/06/2024 - 15:52Agreed and I hope Farage wins in ttte seat he is standing but every other vote for Reform is a wasted vote.
I really worry about Labour having a massive majority and I will not vote Reform and risk giving Labour a bigger majority.
We should at least try to restrict Labour as nuch as possible, they will be a disaster for the PRS with CGT tax and not being able to get the property back even to sell it rent stabilisation which is rent capping by the back door.
When good tenants know that they have evertyhing on their side just watch how quicky they will change.

Then a vote for LDs, Greens or other smaller parties is a wasted vote too? We have to be brave, stick together and start the process of change. Labour just promised to reduce knife crime to half over the next 10 years! They have no idea. Just after power and feathering their own futures. Reform are not just Farage, Ben Habib is a great speaker and R Tice is passionate in what he believes. I like the idea of taking some money off the banks and city to pay for some tax cuts. Why not the City has had it good for a long time.

I understand Richard Tice has funded Reform from his own pocket - such is his belief that the mainstream parties are destroying the country.

Another factor to consider is the security of our country. Farage is the only politicain to have his finger on the pulse regarding foreign aggression. Starmer backed Corbyn, who wanted to leave NATO at a time when the world is becoming more and more aggressive. The other parties barely mention defense.

Farage has a great deal of experience, a sharp mind and wants the best for everyone in the country

You don't vote for a political party; you vote for a candidate by name. Writing Reform on the ballot paper when there is no such candidate standing for that party is a complete waste of time. The only time spoiled ballot papers are examined is when there is a very close result and the candidates and Returning Officer sort through them and try to agree what the voter's intentions were in order to reach a result.
