Updated training is now available for letting agents in Wales to help them navigate the Renting Homes (Wales) Act and assist landlords and tenants.

The new law is the biggest change to Welsh housing policy for decades, and it simplifies how homes are rented so tenants can enjoy, the Labour-led Welsh government says, greater security.

Now safeagent, the UK’s largest not-for-profit accreditation scheme for lettings and management agents, has updated its Foundation Lettings Course for agents in Wales.

This will help agents understand the legislative changes and the updated content has been recognised by Rent Smart Wales – making safeagent the only agent organisation that has an updated online qualification that includes the changes.

Compliance with a range of new processes around rental home provision

For social and private landlords, that means ensuring compliance with a range of new processes around rental home provision, from property safety and maintenance to contractor agreements and eviction notices.

There’s no doubt that landlord responsibilities have changed, and the new law affects existing tenancies as well as new ones.

And safeagent says it hopes that agents will gain the knowledge to support landlords in managing these changes successfully.

Indeed, Rent Smart Wales requires all agents to complete a training course or CPD content when re-licencing to operate in Wales

‘Major milestone for the regulation of the PRS in Wales’

Isobel Thomson, safeagent’s chief executive, said: “The Act marks a major milestone for the regulation of the PRS in Wales – it’s vital that landlords are supported through these changes.

“Agents have an essential role to play in informing and supporting landlords with the new legislation.”

She added: “The training materials we are providing will ensure they can continue to help deliver great rented homes in Wales with confidence.”

All safeagent firms can find out more about the latest Welsh rental regulations on their website.
