General Election 8th June – Who on earth do landlords vote for?

We are asking all landlords to complete this Poll.

We are also extremely interested in your views so please post comments.

For example, you may well despise what the Conservative Government has done and you may well mistrust them but will any other party be better?

If landlords vote for minor parties might this hand a win to Labour?

Do you think a coalition Government is likely, and if so between which parties?

More to the point is how Mr Knee (great name but rather silly fellow) can assert we compete for the exact same properties, whilst providing no proof for this counterintuitive assertion.

Take a look around rightmove etc, 1000's of estate agents post things like "ideal for first time buyers or investors"

If the selling agents who earn a living from selling houses say that the two groups seek the same properties, then you can hardly blame people for thinking the same can you? 😛

I'm fairly sure it is Scanlon and Whitehead, LSE, but the seeds of the fallacy are certainly planted by estate agents who regularly promote properties as "ideal buy-to-let or FTB" in our local newspaper, often on properties I know would not be viable for renting at or anywhere near the asking prices.

Yesterday I had to use a couple of trains to travel from Birkenhead to Warrington and back.

It's quite a while since I have used the service and there is obviously major investment on infrastructure taking place.

The trains were clean, the stations have been upgraded and I assume that subsidies were being used at some point, but the changes are a big improvement.

The staff have recently been striking over the use of conductors and I saw about 8 staff just talking merrily away at various places, such as turnstiles and platform areas.
No mad panics occurring there.

Last week I was in Aintree hospital which is getting to be the size of a large industrial estate or village, where massive shiny buildings and link bridges are being built.

There were large impressive reception areas and smiley doctors and lots of chatting nurses, no sign of NHS demise, until you see the A&E departments, which are crammed into a tiny area and purposefully built to struggle.
It's like looking at a wasps nest in a holiday village.
(Sort of surreal to watch, people waving their arms around, corpses on the floor, blood stained bandages around gunshot wounds etc and the rest of the World outside that department sort of calm with nice background music).

What struck me on the roads to and from the hospital was the amount of construction going on.

There is house building all over the place as you travel around,

My viewpoint would suggest that there is political shenanigans going on in the NHS in regards to A&E and waiting lists.

The same applies to utilities, the lack of investment under public ownership was appalling.

The NHS is getting money, quite rightly so, but the A&E is built to fail on purpose.

My conclusion is......

There is no reason to nationalize anything, except for political dogma purposes.

That includes housing.

In my humble opinion, only the Private Sector can generate wealth, the public sector spends tax receipts, its very unusual for a public body to supply the exchequer with funds, the majority of the private sector provides the profit that provides the tax in the first place.

We had a Social Society of sorts in the 1970's it was a bloody nightmare, strikes, inflation, unemployment, zombie industrial heartlands only supported by subsidies that we couldn't pay for.

Dishonest Labour politicians that were run by the Unions.

It's taken decades to get out of what Thatcher had to do, it was dreadful, but necessary to get the U.K. Back on its feet, but it's still an unfinished job.

We still burn up about ÂŁ1 Billion a week more than we take in tax receipts, someone is going to have to pay for it.

The Tories look after the richest, that's a fact, but Labour just offer perpetual debt and subsidies.

I used to vote Labour, then Tory when I became self employed, until the dreaded Section 24 came out last month.

The closest thing to my sentiments is now UKIP, apart from immigration, which doesn't bother me because I house quite a few.

So please, don't nationalise it never works in the long run.
Don't put today's youth through what Thatcher had to do again, once in a lifetime is enough.

Well said Gary. I expressed the same sentiments the other day and someone posted that they had worked in the private sector once and no-one worked very hard there compared with the public sector. A very limited sample from which to draw their conclusions. Even the most basic grasp of business knowledge or economics will lead you to the common sense conclusion that in the private sector inefficiency/poor service/poor product etc is ultimately punished by failure/bankruptcy etc. That is the simple beauty of the free market in our capitalist society. In the public sector instead it is 'ah there, there are we underfunded again ? Have some more private sector generated cash to burn away' or 'better still have some more cash and let's start another quango/enquiry/commission etc etc to look into it all, again'. My pojnt is we do of course need public sector provided services - you can't have a private army for example but before the private sector has to pay for yet more inefficiency and wastage in the public sector (by increased taxation) the axe needs to swing much more brutally on the public sector. There is oh so much waste. Such a shame that NIge has gone and Nuttall is so unconvincing otherwise I'd be with you on the UKIP side of things. The Tories are regrettably the least dreadful option and to vote tactically is to encourage the utterly disasterous labour/lib dem housing policy which will just about finish us all off.

The Tories are taking the PRS to the brink. Landlords Tenants, Letting Agents will muddle through (those that can survive), and probably the Government will do nothing.

You know that squeaky wheel, you know the one that really annoys you, the wife, the kids, the neighbour, and just needs some oil/grease before the bearing seizes or falls apart. It's been like that for months now but you is going to fail sometime, but it'll be OK for now won't it. BUT what if the wife puts some grit/carborundum powder in it? and forces it to fail in hours rather than months?

VOTE LABOUR or LIBDEM and take the PRS over the brink. Turn a crisis into a total catastrophe, then Government will have to do something sooner.
