Is electric heating a better option to gas central heating?

Is electric heating a better option to gas central heating?

I am in a dilemma; I would like to ask other experienced landlord’s opinion.

My previous house has storage heaters, I am planning to let it out. Should I upgrade the heating for modern slim electric radiators or install gas central heating?

I knew the benefits of an electric heating system has no annual maintenance and installation costs are lower as no pipework is required. Which is cheaper to run?

Thanks
Wanda

Gas cert must be given before the tenant takes possession, so before they are given the keys, to have the S21 option available..

Hi Wanda, you may also wish to speak to a Domestic Energy Assessor as EPC calculations have recently changed again. He could help you to see how calculations for each option effects your overall ratings. There are a lot of Landlords out there like me asking these questions to ensure an acceptable rating can be achieved to allow property to be let out in the future.

I think this poster was talking about using panel heaters not storage heaters. I have these in my "work" flat in Scotland and they are surprisingly efficient. I did the sums for installing storage heaters and it came out the same except for the cost of installing them, so I stayed with them. I have installed gas wherever possible but am now wondering if this was the best policy.

@Puzzler. Fair point about storage heaters vs panel heaters. In my case I replaced the former with the latter, with bad results, but I appreciate that retro-fitting GCH often imposes a huge financial bar to clear.

Hi,I find a combination of fixed convector heaters with time switches in the bedrooms and storage heaters in the lounge.

That is a very expensive electric boiler. There are many more well known British manufacturers who supply similat boilers for well under £1000.
