I rent my 9 studio apartments to students on a bills included basis. During the first month of this project I would pass the building and witness open windows everywhere, knowing full well my boiler was burning gas at an exorbitant rate! window

The next week I fitted Open Window Sensors and Smart Thermostatic Radiator controls (TRV’s)throughout the building MYSELF in one day, no drain down of the heating system required. I then went home and using my online dashboard set the TRV’s throughout the building by day/time/temperature.

This also was simple and quick. Now if a window is opened in one of the apartments the Sensor turns the radiator in that room down automatically. Each room cost me £75 which I recovered over the first few months through my gas bill savings. Smart eh?

Hi Alex,
Do you have the details for the window sensors and TVR's you fitted.
Thanks,
Jarrod

Very smart! And very simple. It is not just the cost of the wasted heat that is a factor but also the fact that your boiler would have been knackered in no time!

I take it that you told your tenants what you were doing?

Hi Alex

That sounds great, but most TRVs can be operated by the room resident, so could the room occupant override your settings?

What is the name of the system you are using? Do you have a website link please?
