Following an email to my local MP re: Clause 24, I just received this today. Any suggestions how best to respond?

'Thank you for your email about Section 24 of the Finance Act 2015, and for the attached briefing.

I am familiar with the concerns held by the “Axe The Tenant Tax” campaign, having heard from a number of affected constituents, and I have written to the Treasury several times over the last year on their behalf, asking in particular that the Government at least keep the policy under review to avoid some of the consequences you have described. I am afraid that the replies I have received have made no such undertaking.

I am aware that permission was not granted for a Judicial Review to challenge the legality of these measures, and so it is now highly unlikely that the policy will be stopped. I would be happy to write further to the Treasury if you wish to emphasise any particular points, but I am afraid there is nothing I can now do to prevent the changes from taking place.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me.'

Best wishes,

Tania Mathias

I got a similar reply from my MP (conservative) back in May (of course without JR comments).
I think the Government must see the crisis to act.
They just do not realise the consequences.

Hi Richard.
If you wait until Monday to reply you should have a good article to send to your MP. Unless there is any unforeseen change, there should be a good article in the Telegraph on Sunday for you to send a link to. Even better would be if you bought the Telegraph, cut out the article and sent it with a hand-written letter. When I showed Richard Dyson's brilliant article about the 'Alice in Wonderland' tax to my MP it had a greater impact that he could hold it in his hand. When possible it is also better to see the MP face to face. Suffice to say the article should be a good one for showing how idiotic this whole thing is.

Thank you Dr Ros, I will certainly be doing that. I do not subscribe to Telegraph on line. Let's see what will happen.

Hmmm ?, I suspect 36 members of one particular delusional & very manipulative echo chamber of a forum are going to be a little upset that the Telegraph doesn't accept readers comments online anymore as they would have certainly had a field day on such an article, regardless of the content of the actual article.

"They just do not realise the consequences."
And landlords collectively need to ensure that he consequences for the government are as serious as S24 is for landlords. Somehow I do not think this will be difficult to achieve, indeed it is already happening in Peterborough.

Another thing to mention is the EPC rating many of the low value properties have poor EPC ratings .
The figure 10% of 4.2million are E or below. If the rating is not upgraded this will remove many of the cheaper houses ito rent in more expensive areas.
