I was aware that the conservative MPs are in denial.

Having looked a bit further I see that this is a consequence of encouraging corporations to own homes to let rather than individuals who have a conscience.

I don't know about that, but whoever signed that deal on behalf of the council should already be in jail imo. It really should be looked at as misconduct in public office.

I don't think the PRA rules state that the new underwriting rules should be applied to remortgaging (as long as it doesn't involve new borrowing) so they're just following government guidance really. I don't know why the other lenders are going one step further, if indeed they are?
