You have something in common with George Osborne for he too did not foresee rent rises.

And I of course was being ironic. Poor old George does not seem to be able to foresee any of the real consequences of his decisions, he fiddles while landlords (and tenants) burn.

This is what Section 24 is really the product of:

http://www.propertyindustryeye.com/28871-2/

It's nothing to do with first time buyers. That was just the gloss applied by the government to get it past the electorate.

Section 24 is a LAND GRAB driven by the lobbying of corporate donors to the Conservative Party. It is the product of big business working hand-in-glove with its representatives in government, to destroy small business at the ultimate expense of the end consumer: tenants.

“We are looking to invest hundreds of millions of pounds into new rental homes, designed specifically for the renting, which we will directly manage for many years to come. It is important that the Government does all it can to allow us and companies like us to build more homes.”
Why does anyone think that the arguments advanced in the letter do not apply equally to individual investors/landlords?

It's a kind of selective blindness. They don't offer any justification, as there is none.

I really don't think we know the extent of the plans for build to rent especially south and in major cities still fundamentally unfair to give them competitive advantage that's why the JR will be key I think
