http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/13/landlords-should-be-squealing-under-george-osbornes-crackdown-tr/

This stated intention of a Treasury minister to make landlords squeal serves to underline the ignorance and immaturity encompassed within the Treasury's own policy making. Such a statement also shows the degree to which Clause 24 is a politically-motivated attack rather than a considered economic policy.

The primary victims of Clause 24 will be the poorest and most vulnerable private sector tenants priced out of the market. Furthermore, by definition of them being the least able to afford the rent hikes of George Osborne's tax grab, they will OBVIOUSLY not be empowered to buy their own homes by the Tenant Tax.

Clause 24 will not help first-time buyers at the expense of squealing landlords. Clause 24 will help the wealthiest incorporated landlords (who form a substantial contingent of Tory party donors) at the expense of poorer and displaced tenants.

It is precisely because of attitudes such as these within the Treasury that Britain needs this Judicial Review.

"The Telegraph understands that six Tory MPs are prepared to champion landlords amid concerns that they are being unfairly treated."

Does anyone have any ideas as to who the 6 may be?

Graham, the most likely are those who already own BTL properties themselves, hence vested interest.

Under no circumstances, would they feel sorry for us?

Small businessmen are the very heart of the Conservative Party.
Without their votes and support they will not win an election.
Without the BTL landlord there would be enormous pressure on social landlords, which would lead to a crisis. The disadvantaged tenants would not vote for them either.
GO has fouled his own nest.

I have just met my local central ward Councillor, re-elected, increased majority, red but likes GO (a local lad) but hopelessly unaware of C24 and even the SDLT is barely on the radar. Interestingly she WAS aware of some large corportate landlord activity albeit in another city; I'll be following up with her to expand on my closing comments re HB tenants. Anyone got any useful gen. pdfs etc?
