A welcome change to Landlord Bashing, in an article by Simon Jenkins, writing in the London Evening Standard:

Corbyn removing the tax deductability of interest would surely demonstrate his alignment with unencumbered capitalists would it not?

Yes, great article by Simon Jenkins. He is really getting on board with us now - after his other recent good article. He sent me a nice email just now thanking me for some further points I raised with him and referring me to the Standard article.

More crap from the Treasury, however:

Someone speaking up for us though:

'The Residential Landlords Association was keen to see the extension of the capital gains tax relief so that landlords could sell property to their tenants. That is a small thing that could incentivise the whole housing market if it was done in the right way.'

Just been trying to work out from the actual legislation whether accumulated losses are still of any use/allowance....carrying unallowed finance costs forward is clearly mentioned...however if they are not allowed to be deducted from ones annual tax...what is the point.?....Personally i have a significant accrued loss figure from many previous years....is this now to be effectively chucked away?...post implementation of C 24..................??????????
or do we work thru the new formula..get a fig..then knock this fig/amount off accumulated losses for previous years.Which in some cases would leave no tax payable ? Its hard to work out from a laymans reading of the actual wording as they drop into various formulas and abbreviations.etc.Has anyone had a good accountants view on this please???.

Hi Michael

The answer to the question in your last paragraph is yes. Even if all of your deemed profit for a year is offset against losses brought forward you will still be able to carry that year’s finance costs forward for “relief” in future years.

This was confirmed by Megan Shaw of HMRC: http://www.property118.com/budget-2015-landlords-reactions/76164/comment-page-802/#comments at 22.23

Okay, everyone. Important message from Steve Bolton and Chris Cooper. The next stage of the funding of the legal challenge against the Government begins tomorrow. This is the time for us all to put our money where our mouths are. Also, it is important to circulate this to everyone you can think of. I would wait until it is up and running, which I believe should be around mid-day tomorrow. Then help it to go viral like the last time. We are hoping that people who donated before will donate again - you will see that donations over £100 entitle the donor to a ticket at the summit: 'Tenant Tax - Landlords Fight Back', on the 9th of June, which will be a brilliant event and also mean that a lot of us can meet up with each other for the first time in many cases.

This is the link to the funding site:

Indeed Simon Jenkins is behind us - I have circulated the link to his article on Tenant Tax FB page (it was approved today) and on my own FB as well. (I thought I posted it on Property 11 as well...)
I will write to him as well, at least to thank him for his support.

In the meantime my MP (Cons) who has been good in passing my various comments to Treasury got a specific reply from David Gauke. He addresses perhaps 10 of my points the rest (2 A4 pages) is a typical government tosh. Apparently they are monitoring an impact of Tenant Tax (?). Time completely wasted on that correspondence.

Hi WS.
Could you post the letter here so that we can see if he slipped up and said something we can use?

The crowdfunding site is now fully up and running. I have just pledged and shared and would encourage everyone to follow suit. Let's show the Government that we're not a push-over.
