I watched the first 15 minutes but have a very low boredom threshold. If someone who is more generally interested could watch it and let us know if there is anything of particular importance to us that would be good.

@ Gareth & Chris
I went to see my MP (David Gauke, Financial Security to the Treasury) about C24 in August last year. Pleasant enough chap, though appeared surprisingly somewhat clueless about the whole subject area (PRS) and all he could do was trot out the nonsensical govt rhetoric. No surprises there.

So I asked him a direct question: 'Are you hoping that institutions will take over the PRS?' He replied 'um.. yes, we hope so'.

No surprises there either, but I still suspect that it was their wealthy LL buddies/ party sponsors (some of whom have moved on from the gullible HPC and other similarly simplistic forums/ blogs etc and are now trying their hand at trying to manipulate the mainstream media for obvious commercial reasons, as shown in the recent 'advertorials' via BBC & Sky news) rather than HMT, who actually came up with the idea of C24, in the first place?

Hi Mark,

The somewhat blasé way in which Guake regarded a blueprint for rental sector turmoil makes him seem all the more dangerous to me.

We believe the inspirer of Clause 24 was David Kingman of the Intergenerational Foundation: a 23 year old Geography graduate: http://www.property118.com/landlord-tax-grab-source-document-exposed/83110/comment-page-5/

I certainly wouldn't rush into anything before the budget. I have 2 fears.....one is the risk that the upcoming judicial review will prompt George Osborne to apply the same interest restrictions to corporates.....and two that he will also go after people's pensions....abolishing tax relief at the point of paying into a pension. The only encouraging sign is a story in the standard tonight that pressure from within the party is making it increasingly likely that GO will now back down on further pension reforms.

I didn't expect anyone to actually watch the dep gov of BoE, but on the dark side, one of the goons whined:

"At 14:28:39 he's asked why house prices are going up if no one can afford them. He gives a long answer and which concludes by dealing with buy-to-let. The questioner follows up with a question about the shift in the pattern of housing tenures as the PRS has grown"

Me, me self thinks they speak with forked tongue. HPrices are going up, due to easy money, low rates, over lending, high LTV of up to 90%, HTB etc, yet are panicked by a dramatic fall in houses prices caused by the very measures the two Gs (Gideot and Gauky) are pushing. LL bashing.

DT business today runs the same story, on front page, but from the boss of Shawbrook.

If the legal challenge is effective, or modest changes are made, over a period of 5 years, the few properties coming on the market, coupled with higher rents, incorporated GROUPS picking up a few properties, there will be no effect on prices in the rental type properties, imv.

The non-sequter is that BTL has pushed prices up, but as the BTL is decimated in the future, house prices will ........ still double by 2030.

I've just encountered the corporate landlord competition.

Just taken on a couple currently paying £800 pcm to a big name corporate.

I daren't name and shame but Google "NHS accommodation" and have a look at the family accommodation on offer. Permanent, medium term, aimed at the late twenties/ early thirties market.

20m2.

Kitchenette, showerette, bogette, bedette.

My flat is 60m2

i.e you could fit three corporate flats into on of mine.

I'm charging £600.

Granted, that isn't all inclusive but it is quality furnished to a far higher standard.

For anyone doubting the quality of accommodation in the PRS, search on rightmove for £800 flats in cities north of Watford gap.

The only way corporate landlords can compete with private landlords is by government taxing and legislating us out of business.

Which seems to be what they are doing.

Pensions tax relief - so it was proposed to change this. Now it's reported that it will not be changed on the advice of others. What is going on? Why is stuff proposed that has not been thought through?
When will they get rid of him?
When will the media and other realise the impact of the changes he makes?
When will tax be simplified?
When will they stop the utter car crash politics / tax meddling?
Digital tax meetings with HMRC indicate they don't understand tax and businessss
They hinder businesses and landlords
Scary times.
