Of course he does; his own family does the same.

One of our clients wrote a similar letter and got a very disappointing response that not only essentially said "go away" but was also downright wrong in its explanation of who the changes would affect.

..........but it's not OK for a private LL to shift his/her profits into a UK based management company that would pay UK corporation tax @ 20%.

It's one level playing field Go and his friends and another for everyone else.

From the link:
"Mr Osborne said: 'I have heard lots of proposals about getting rid of corporation tax altogether and raising a turnover tax.

'I would just enter this note of caution: that means a business that has made no money in a particular year, it maybe in a recession or a company that has lost a big order - they would be being hit with a tax bill.

'So I think before we rush to some other solution I would try and make corporation tax work, which is a tax on profits".

Hello Georgie, if you don't like a turnover tax what would you call C24?

Hey Money Manager,

We need to put his statements into context... that of them only applying to our social betters.

Better = more capable of donating to the Tories or possessing the surname "Osborne"

George Osborne is a world leader in his "short-sighted" policies.

Half the world to be short-sighted by 2050

Barry...but on what basis would one shift profit from a private individual to a corporation. What would be the relationship between the two parties?

A bit off topic but currently very topical. From a btl perspective what is the current mood for landlords here regarding staying in or out in an EU referendum. It's a difficult one I believe.

The private LL could set up a management company (ltd) which would manage the lettings, subcontractors, other admin etc for a fee. The fee would be a business expenses to the private LL and therefore reduce the profits of the LL ( to the point where C24 would be ineffective).

The management Co. would be liable to corporation tax on any profits it made @20% (going on 18%). The management Co. would be wholly owned by the LL (who would be paid a small salary and be paid dividends by the Ltd Co).

However, HRMC don't allow this apparently. Why? because your name isn't Google, Starbucks, Apple or Amazon (or one of a host of big multi-national companies).
