Just watching the Press Preview. In the papers tomorrow:

'Osborne family firm pays no corporation tax.'

We knew it, but it's nice that it's on the front page.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer is a serial tax avoider.

I wonder if any interest is offset when calculating Osborne & Little's profits for tax purposes?

Call me a cynic Gareth but I can't help but wonder whether the Offshore Trust which partnered with the Osborne family on a recent property development is in fact run by nominees on behalf of the Osborne family.

Latest news on the legal action from the Judicial Review Facebook Page...

"We have now received a response from HMRC to our pre-action protocol letter. Our lawyers have advised us not to share the detail of this letter, but I can inform you that we will be filing the judicial review application next week as planned.

Everyone is working hard refining the relevant documents, gathering expert statements and background research.

Whilst we are getting access to some good case studies from people living outside of the U.K. but in EU countries, more would be better, so please keep them coming.

We will file the application by Wednesday and keep you posted."

I would not take that bet against you Mark. In fact, I am certain that as the company seem to have evaporated with the sale of the the last mews house, the Osborne's and George specifically knew full well what they were doing and I'll bet the company was established and run exactly as you suggest.

I must been drinking at the same Kool Aid fountain as you - I wondered that very same thing too. Surely the Chancellor should be above reproach, but being involved in deals like this doesn't really show leadership by example does it?

Tenant evictions reach record high in 2015 according to official research

The number of tenants evicted from their homes by bailiffs reached a record high in 2015, according to official figures released by the Ministry of Justice.

Over 42,700 households in rented accommodation were forcibly removed from their properties in 2015. This figure is 2% higher than the figures released in 2014, and a shocking 53% increase on the 2010 numbers. It represents 170 households a day being evicted from their properties.

The highest figures of evictions are being reported in the London Borough of Newham, which reports 191 evictions in each 100,000 households, with Luton, Manchester, Peterborough and Slough also rating highly on the list.

Campbell Robb, the chief executive of housing charity Shelter is concerned that the figured represent the impact that ‘welfare cuts and the chronic shortage of affordable homes are having on hundreds of renters every day’.

I warned him about this some time ago, when I replied to a letter he wrote to a fellow landlord on Property118:

'You also mention protecting the position of those on benefits. These are the ones who will suffer most from this policy. As rental demand will surge with any contraction in the PRS, landlords remaining in the market will give notice to those on benefits and favour those in work. However, some landlords could be made bankrupt if they do not sell their properties. Kathy Miller, the landlord I mentioned earlier, has now given notice to 6 families who are low-paid and/or on benefits that they must now leave, as she is going to have to sell their homes. None of these tenants are likely to ever be in a position to purchase and they have been with her for many years. Where will they go now? If the policy were reversed, she could allow them to stay.

This change is going to have a far bigger effect than the cuts to housing benefit you mention and also to the cuts in tax credits, as I mentioned in my comments about rent increases. Homelessness will also grow massively as this policy bites.'
