Hi Douglas.
If you would be willing to go on the record publicly about the impact of C24 on your business, could you write a few details about this in an email to Mark which he can pass on to me and I can see whether it might be useful in the legal case? I would then let you know what was going to be made public for you to either okay it or not, as the case may be.
Thanks.
Ros

Hi Ros. Yes I would be prepared to go on any record if you like - I don't think my position would be much different to many others although I am surprised at how many landlords that I have mentioned this to seem to have little idea of what is around the corner. I am not sure if my figures would have that much clout but I do think the situation is so serious that it is incumbent on all of us to make as much noise as possible.

All I wanted to do was to have a portfolio of between twenty and thirty properties which will give me a sound income into my retirement - paying if necessary for a home or help in our final years (remember both myself and wife are disabled) and at the same time to have something to pass to our children some of whom will not have a chance to ever own their own home otherwise.

I take pride in my properties and also try to look after my tenants even though this has to be on a business footing - I don't want to have to put up my rents just to keep me afloat, although my tenants are in my property it is their home, many have no where else to go - the local authorities cannot help in most cases. If I wanted to scrounge from state resources I would have sold up and gone on several world cruises. I would have then let the state keep me in a manor to which I am accustomed! So from a win win situation Mr Osborne has made everyone a looser including himself although he is too stupid to see this yet.

Doug.

Hi Dixie

The template of a letter that will explain to councillors and council officers why homelessness will increase can be found at:

http://www.property118.com/letter-template-landlords-local-councils/84471/

Everyone should send it to their local councils. It is they who will have to pick up the pieces if this disastrous law comes into effect. And it is a way of reaching committed members of all political parties.

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/tenant-evictions-reach-highest-level-on-record/ar-BBpp2E6

If this has been posted, The artical says: ''The number of tenants evicted from their homes by bailiffs reached a record high in 2015, according to official figures for England and Wales showing that 42,728 households in rented accommodation were forcibly removed....''

what a pity, the part of main reason the eviction by private LL is not mentioned, a rather shallow report does not address the problem behind, an oppotunity lost with possible nagitive affect yet again on view of private LL.

Is it just me, or are these figures confusing?

"Housing campaigners blamed welfare cuts and the shortage of affordable homes for the 2% rise in repossessions over the year, revealed in figures from the Ministry of Justice. More than half the evictions are thought to have been by private landlords.

The MoJ data shows the number of evictions increased by 53% over the five years from 2010, to the equivalent of more than 170 a day. In England, 19,093 evictions were by social landlords, such as housing associations, while 5,919 were by private landlords. A further 16,440 were made through the “accelerated procedure”, which can be used by either type of landlord to evict tenants on assured shorthold tenancies. However, the housing lawyer Giles Peaker said they would be “almost entirely” actions by private landlords."

More than half by private LLs yet more than half of rented homes by the private sector, (surely as the social/council sector have failed to provide the number required). Then goes on to show more than three times as many by social LLs (above quote). More data/explanation required.

Is the 'accelerated process' the one that should not be used now?

Hi john

Pains me to say it but I agree totally

I am quite new to forums etc and have been shocked at how miss guided and negative the feelings are to the PRS landlord. They have there deep rooted and false option based on media bias and will never be swayed. It has shocked me that much that I confine myself to this forum and this only.

The best way is to fight it together as a group / industry forget general public they will hate us for some mad reason whatever Information they are fed

Hi NW Landlord,

I am new too in this forum as well as in BTLs. Although I have little experience in this industry in comparison to many veterans here, I am not sure if we can forget the general public opinion.

I totally agree with you on a collective approach i.e. 'together as a group / industry' but perhaps there can also be a collective initiative to lobby the media and the general public, or else politicians will use this as/in their hunting ground. I am not too sure if the trade organisations have sufficiently engaged with them. After reading few posts in the forum it seems there are many interesting positive stories on how private landlords are contributing to the community and not all landlords are rogue. We need to strategically engage with the media.

Chris Cooper, Mark Alexander, Steve Bolton and few others' initiatives has generated more (and much needed) publicity than what has been so far. Irrespective of what the results are from the judicial review, perhaps we can organise ourselves to keep lobbying the media and the public. But yes, as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, it will not be easy; one or few can take the leadership/initiative for the rest to follow - it is easier said than done.

Same here, cannot stand Cameron, I think he is as slimey and insincere as they come, not quite as bad as Tony Blair I might add.

But there is nobody else, threats about ditching the Tories if they do not do a U turn are just falling on death ears. Corbyn has guaranteed ten more years of Tory power, and thank God I might add.

Cameron is going to cost me in so many ways, but the alternative would be far worse, Hey Ho! win some lose some.
