And what do we get?

Doomsayers predicting house prices falling 60%, but they would say that on HPC wouldn't they.

But not yet!

Today's DT business section

"In the long term, the dearth of properties available combined with rampant demand means house price growth isn’t likely to slow any time soon. This creates clear affordability concerns for first-time buyers.
“Government schemes to increase affordable housing will put a bandage over the wound: but without a significant and sustained increase in the construction of new homes, the current housing crisis isn’t likely to be cured any time soon.”

Yet in west Mercia prices are up 2% ........ in ten years!

Hi BTL I S

Thanks for the link

They steal 25% off you, then give it back and call it an increased relief!

“The move is to encourage landlords to let to social tenants who in many cases, particularly in areas of high demand for rental homes, find it almost impossible to find landlords who will accept rent allowance or HAP.
In addition the vast majority of families becoming homeless are social tenants from the private rented sector, who then find it impossible to find alternative accommodation, both because the rents far exceed their housing support payment, and because landlords want private tenants.”

This is the shape of things to come in the UK. I wonder if Generation Rent or the Intergenerational Foundation give a fig for the social tenants they will be displacing.

I would question whether reversing it now in Ireland will undo the damage it has wrought. The damage may be irreversible. They have made housing a political football, twice. They tried this in 1998 as well. Twice bitten, three times shy.

When we warn people what will happen to the poorest members of society in the UK we should point out that the effect will be irreversible. Simply going back to normal tax principles will not be enough to create homes for them again.

Some bright spark needs to set uk "fair tax homes uk" as a banner we can all get under , as an offshore Dutch sandwich. Then we will be a serious force to reckon with ?

I have been thinking in the last half hour along the same lines and like your intellectual property slogan. When do we start?

It has begun.

I have had several calls from asylum accom providers desperately seeking more properties in the last week. Large influx of asylum seekers requiring accom which is being exasperated by Landlords taking stock back as not viable with rent levels offered and impending tax changes.

The only way this particular problem will resolve itself is for rent offered to be increased to make it viable to a Landlord.

Did these properties go up in a puff of smoke ? No...but for asylum providers they might just have well have !!

Well done George, you may want to check your figures again.

If we all joined, there'd be no extra SDLT to pay as there'd be a purchase of more than 15 properties in one go (i think we'd need a holding co to own properties and then we'd need to pay to rent them out using a brand and some nice standard procedures). Or something like that.

I signed it and there is space for comment so I mentioned the 'Alice in Wonderland' tax, paying a million percent effective tax rates and even infinite ones, compared to these multinationals getting away with murder.

I dont understand the fine detail ...but it seemed like all we had to do was pay over a large amount of profit for the use of the banner/intellectual property “fair tax homes uk” and then it goes to IOM via amsterdam with no tax to pay on the way. ...just as all the tax avoiding big cos do. I'm sure there will be a bit more to it than that, but not a lot from the documentary. I'm sure the tax free town would be happy for a huge set of uk LL to back their ideas ?
