Well, I had to try myself actually so I put your income in at 11K.

Good news, computer says you now get the full 20% of £60K relief.

Bad news is that your tax went up to £5200 but if you consider you paid an extra £1800 on £11K of other income( 16.3%) then it's not all bad.

Hello Mark,
Can you post a new banner link under your popular discussions on your main home page for our landlord responses to our MP's re: this latest budget. I know that you have opened up a new thread for this, but it will make it much easier for us to access it. Great site, your site dares to open up state what is actually happening and throw up good ideas. Why is it that I learn stuff on your site that accountants and RLA and NLA never seem to explore!

The English rioting : Pull another one. If the English had any ba..s their Governments will not walk all over them.

e<g loss of raid on pension rights, speed camera's parking ticket, VAT rise from 8% to current rate, sell of of swimming pools, Tax planning by the rich, MP's fiddling, Paying for the Monarchy, education standard. most expensive public transport, intrusion of privacy, Banks failure, Closure of libraries, swimming pools for the citizens. Inheritance tax, The above came to mind without thinking hard.

Can, We have a standard letter drafted to be sent to our MPs. Keeping in mind that most of them are not aware of the issues.

An example. I saw my MP regarding the use & abuse of the leaseholders by some of the crooked Freeholders/Managing agents. I could see that she had no clue what I was talking about and to add insult to injury she had flats that were/are managed by Freeholder/Managing agents.

I feel not stressing too much on the financial aspects and issues like.

I feel that the letter should cover the following.
a) Increase in rent.
b) Hinder,: mobility by work force as less Landlords will be getting into the sector.
c) What will happen to housing in the interim period, while the so called of 250k units are to be built as they cannot be built overnight.
d) The main shortage is in London/M25. There is a shortage of land to be built upon.
e) The low gross/net yield will not be able to sustain the new taxation of private landlords.
f) The whole model of buy to let products will change
g) What will happen when the interest goes up. Resulting in defaults/bankruptcies for no fault/mismanagement by the Landlords.

If you send a templated letter the MP's will create a templated response. I know this from experience.

In my experience the MPs will send you a template response irrespective & even this will take months for them to respond.

In the majority of the cases I do not even get a response.

Hi Simon.
Yes, I knew I should find the link last night, but I was two sheets to the wind (only joking - had one glass; luckily after I had to go and do a 20 mile round trip to let in a tenant who locked herself out - another eg. of how buy-to-let is identical to a hands-off 'investment,' and comparable to running your owner-occupier house. Yawn)

Hi Shakeel. As Mark says I think the way to go with the letters to MPs, if you don't have the time - and some people don't have the confidence - to write one from scratch, is to pick one someone else has written on this site, cut and paste it into a document and then amend it a lot so that it says what is more relevant for you. So far I think we only have Mark's letter and mine, but hopefully others will post theirs too, soon. Mark's is at the top of the thread and mine (and I incorporated his calculations) is on the page on this link:
