Hi Kathy

This is a scandal. Ten special advisers for Osborne, costing the taxpayer £500,000, when the Ministerial Code sets a maximum of two.

Cameron has given his old mate from the Bullingdon Club permission for the extra eight, whereas he promised in 2009 that he would limit the number to one.

Cameron’s promises are not worth the paper they are written on.

When the 30th percentile came in I considered adapting my LHA business model because the playing field was changing. I Evicted an HB tenant who couldn't top up They were placed in a B&B 10 miles out of town as all the local ones were full .

I suggested turning my 4 bed into a B&B to accommodate that homeless family and provide emergency temporary accommodation for them so the kids could carry on going to their local school and not use the taxpayers money for a taxi every day.

The logic was wasted on them. They just said they were not interested in `short term housing solutions` I still smile when i read their e mail .

After that they started buying up 4 million worth of property on the open market. Maggie sells it off and they buy it back again. Crazy . Cameron set to do it again with HA housing
I went for a property once only to be told the council had beat me to it paying asking price. I was tempted to offer over asking just to annoy them but i resisted the temptation.

I do think it is bonkers that in a time where there is a chronic shortage of housing councils are forced to sell off properties at well below market rates...

Do you know if its possible to be placed into a council house, after 10yrs say buy said council house at a reduced rate, sell 5yrs later at market rate as allowed, blow the lot then go back to the council and ask for a council house, 10yrs or so later have the opportunity again to buy the house at a reduced price.. I know its highly unlikely but was wondering if it was a possibility cause if it was im sure you could find an example somewhere...

I just found this on Property Tribes:

We should all write to these Landlord MPs.

The new biggest landlord is Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk & Malton, with 12 properties, followed by Michelle Thomson (Edinburgh West) with 9. The previous ‘champion’ James Clappison, who stepped down as MP for Hertsmere before the election, let out 31 homes

I think you could cant see anything to stop you.

I had a tenant who sold their own house spent all the money in Spain
came back to UK and got Housing Benefit, they wanted receipts which they couldnt supply but still got it.
If it was two people and only one bought that would leave the other one free to buy if they managed to get another council house.

"The government has announced a series of measures to promote home ownership, but is introducing tax changes that will make life harder for landlords.

From 2017, they will be able to claim less tax relief on their profits. And from April 2016, they will have to pay a higher rate of stamp duty.

'Critically our principal concern with the measures announced by the government is that they are overly focused on promoting home ownership, at the expense of other tenures,' said Mr Rubinsohn.
'Discouraging buy-to-let could see private rents take even more of the strain.'"

An e-mail to RICS

Mr Rubinsohn

I read the following BBC posting "Rent rises could soon outpace house prices, warn surveyors" - BBC News yesterday and your observation on the effect of Clause 24 on the PRS and rent levels.

It may be that you have been misquoted as I believe the words attributed do not accurately reflect the income tax issue.

The piece states "From 2017, they will be able to claim less tax relief on their profits". This reflects the phraseology used by the Chancellor in the Autumn statment but is misplaced, landlords do not receive any tax relief on their profits. At present mortgage interest and other allowable COSTS are deducted from turnover (rent) as with ALL OTHER business activities in order to find the taxable profit. Starting with the transitional period landlords will be taxed on turnover net of non financing costs and with the limited CREDIT against the resulting tax bill; it is this distortion and the creation of a tax liability which, taken with all other outgoings, could exceed gross turnover and will prove so damaging.

It may be semantics but the, perhaps inadvertent, perpetuation of the myth that landlords are receiving a tax relief rather than a perfectly normal accounting treatment is unhelpful.

Perhaps I could ask that you are correctly quoted in future.
