Gareth, how do you mean final bell? I thought it has already been rung by receiving "Royal Assent"?

Don't know if anyone has posted this article already - interesting that some of the other mainstream newspapers are running articles outlining the possible effects of the new measures:

Hi Saeef, Bills have been amended or scrapped previously, even after receiving Royal Assent.

Interesting point Gareth... I think some more research on this to see how it plays out. Whether GO reverses or not I would now like to see him punished.

Chris,

That's great! I was not aware of that. I thought this was all set in stone.

Thanks for that Chris. I hadn't seen it. The journalist Ruth Lythe, who wrote it, interviewed me over the 'phone on Thursday and was sending a photographer around, so you all would have had the pleasure of seeing my ugly mug, but that was then cancelled. Phew!
I am very pleased at the emphasis in the article. I feel the Mail is shifting its stance. When I said to Ruth that I felt the Mail had been less than sympathetic over recent months, with regard to landlords, and that I hoped this was going to change, she said that her editor was clear that it is supply which is causing the housing 'crisis' not landlords.
We should build on this positive coverage by the Mail. I really hope this is indicative of them swinging in our direction. It wouldn't hurt for a few people to send some messages of thanks to Ruth Lythe (who came across to me as a really nice person) and Rosie Taylor for the article.

If it's not illegal, can someone put some extracts of the Richard Dyson one on MPs owning BTLs as I can't get access to it?

I think that once any right thinking person, including journalists and MPs understands the impact that introducing the measures retrospectively will have on people who made (necessarily) long term commitments, in good faith, they will see that it is unfair.

The wider consequences that the measures will have on the housing market itself will only be understood in time, and until then will be vigorously contested by the Treasury.

Interesting statistics from the article:

Out of 330 Conservative MPs, 91 own buy-to-let properties (28pc)
Buy-to-lets are defined as properties in which MPs do not live, which are worth over £100,000 and which generate more than £10,000 rent per year.
34 Conservative MPs have two or more buy-to-lets.
15 have three or more buy-to-lets.
Bob Blackman, MP for Harrow East since 2010, owns the greatest number of buy-to-lets having six flats in Welwyn Garden City, all generating more than £10,000 rent.

Perhaps one of Bob Blackman's constituents has, or can, write to him detailing the personal impact the new measures will have. Unless Bob Blackman's properties are unencumbered, he will presumably be considerably affected too - and he is a Conservative MP.
