Hi Saeef,

I was in the city centre earlier this morning, but have left now - its a bit of a schlep to get back in on short notice. Happy to meet next time you are in the area.

Unbelievable! I am honestly shocked and appalled at the lack of scrutiny of a complicated amendment to tax law which is blatantly unfair.

What little faith I had left of democracy in this country has now evaporated.

Exasperated to say the least!

Ros, in a nutshell.....most owner directors of limited companies pay themselves PAYE up until the personal exemption limit of £10,600. Any salaries above this level suffers paye tax.

Any further earnings that a director chooses to take out of the business is then normally done via dividend payments. Dividends can only be paid out of surplus profits that I company has, and corporation tax of 20% needs to be paid on that profit. Any surplus after that can be distributed as dividends. Under the old rules the recipient did not have to pay any further tax on dividends as corporation tax had already been paid on those profits. Under the new rules, only the first 5K of dividends are tax free. All other dividends up until the higher rate marginal rate of tax will now be taxed at 7.5%. And above the marginal rate at 33.5%

This has significantly increased the amount of tax owner occupiers will pay if they decided to take money out of their business.

Am I just being thick, but was Gauke's answer to the question about how many LLs would be dragged into the Higher Rate tax band a load of gobbly-gook?

I've put in another FoI request to get the numbers of LLs who would be HRTs if these new rules were applied to the latest SA tax returns (FY2012/13) and the number of properties they own.

Mark Garnier: I have a small amount of sympathy with the view that house prices are too high, but is the hon. Gentleman genuinely advocating that the principal method of saving for most people in this country should be reduced in value? The effect on households would be astronomically catastrophic if one were to start reducing house prices. Is that part of his policy?

I dont suppose they would as it would put FTB in negative equity

..... and we voted for these buffoons to lead us!!!!

I doubt any of them even read the various submissions made by us, or if they did it overloaded their brain cell (singular intended).
