If Chancellor wants to bring a fairer Tax System and would like BTL landlords coming in line with first time buyers then perhaps he can waive off CGT completely then I would be happy even if, he did not allow a penny in so-called Tax relief for rental income.

As, I would then sell everything and this new legislation would not have any impact on me.

I would be no more surprised than you if a couple of regulars from that other forum have voted. Maybe even more than once.

I don't think it really matters. You are, I suspect, correct to question the validity of any such poll, not just one on this subject.

On the proposal itself. Some sort of CGT exemption would be no more off the wall than some of the other policies the government has tried, aimed at FTBs: SDLT exemption, Help to Buy etc.

I don't foresee a straight and total exemption for a LL selling to a FTB, but I really wouldn't be surprised what the government might pull out of its hat next on its quest to grow the number of FTBs that do buy for OO.

I believe the only reason the government want OO is so they can take their money in later life . To pay for care homes and help top up an ever fading state pension.
They will still be working on privatisation of the NHS
If it does not get taken via above and some is left they are likely to pay IHT. The increase in IHT, which was long overdue will be eroded away over 40 years. Of course they might even bring in CGT for OO ,they have shown their colours and Joe Pubic can expect many more tax grabs ..

They can preach all they like about helping FTB, but you cant fool all the people all the time with their spin.. They have other motives, when the FTB are saddled with high mortgages as its the only way they will get a place to live in, what happens if interest rates rise .

Repossessions and no rental houses left for them to move to.

All the people cheering about this and not fighting it as just given the government free reign and they might well be next .

Reply to the comment left by "Appalled Landlord" at "08/10/2015 - 18:43":

Dear Mr Appalled,

I did not intend to cause any offence but I can categorically say that, back in July you repeatedly stated that having void period as well as paying more interest will cause landlords to pay more Taxes.

This is when Mark Alexander intervened and told you that, more Interest you pay, you will pay less in Taxes as you will reclaim bigger portion in Tax relief and he then added that having void periods will reduce tax accordingly.

I do not profess to be an expert in this field but I believe I know enough to understand dynamics of Property Taxation. Having been an Independent Financial Adviser as well as property investor for several years.
He is still alive and I'm sure he will remember what you had stated.

I think, if Government reduced CGT, to say at, 10%, they will bring far more revenue than what they currently bring, this will free up some houses and would become available to first time buyers.

Chancellor would be happy, BTL landlords would be happy and First Time Buyers will be happy...at least we won't have a death trap wrapped around us.

Come on Georgie, make a fairer tax for everyone..we are a legitimate business.

Saeef. Can you stop trying to whip something up against Appalled? You did it before with me, and that time too there were silent ticks - bullies like to hide behind anonymity. Cut it out. We've got important work to do here.
If you want to make yourself useful, write to John Redwood and/or Michael Gove, as they have both looked like promising possible allies in the last few days.
