Hi ML.
Could you paste here exactly what John Redwood said? I'd like to know so we can gauge whether we can try and get him on board. I think he could be a champion for us. He's an MP, he's well-known and he clearly doesn't agree with the policy.
GO has told everyone he's not for turning ad nauseum - at first the RLA were told it and came away from their meeting with him very demoralised, defeatist even, thinking it was game over. Since then, they've decided to fight it all the way.
The problem for many of us is that we don't live in the Political world (thank God), so we don't know how the games are played. I think now it doesn't matter much that a politician says he will not sway from his path ever - a sniff of controversy and it can turn around overnight. Let's see what happens with the tax credits for example - there is bound to be a shift on that with all the furore. I think it is Game On.

Jeremy Hunt said the same as John Redwood - in so much as it will become law! It is a done deal unless the Public Bills Committee intervene.

Jeremy Hunt is not given to saying utterly stupid things (except that you parasites should work harder like his chineese wife or an American)... Any way, he looked at me and winked and said "Mark, governments don't loose Finance bills - this is going to become law"

"Tenant Tax" is our only hope and we need to crowd fund advertising of the impact of the Tenant Tax and organise as a movement rather than send a few very supportive posts and tweets between ourselves..

Applying logic i think the whole thing is going to back fire. The poor will not be able to find accommodation and then the Council will have to pay for B&B at 3 times the cost.

I have now spent 3 months stressing over this but not anymore. I will just change my BTL portfolio to B&B and then really take advantage of the situation and I will still get all the tax breaks so my profits will rise. i dont even have to bother with all the hassle of limited companies.

The whole thing sounds like financial suicide to me. I really don't understand their thinking.

Let them do it. i don't care anymore

Exactly what defines a "B&B" ?

Does putting a box of cornflakes and 7 pints of milk in the fridge once a week suffice ?!

I rally hope so 'cos that may also get around all the new ridiculous regulation that are on their way as a very nice bonus extra to boot !

Well said Bill! We will adapt and win. Alas tenants will be evicted and the more lefty press will take note. I think GO is in for a very rough ride but we'll win out.

I also wonder if the way he's staged the introduction is to ensure that there will not be mass hysteria and evictions before the next election. However his logic is flawed as it's already started. Landlords on this forum have already served S21's and when the law is passed it'll really kick off.

Poor George, poor Campbell Robb, poor Dan and Betsy.

Ros you are absolutely right.

No senior politician especially one vying for leadership is going to just cave in on a policy, even if he knows it is wrong. GO will keep up this rhetoric until it becomes politically unviable whereupon he'll be looking for a scapegoat to save face. We just need to keep the pressure on, and even step it up.

GO is hoping the his rhetoric will makes us cave in.
THINK AGAIN GEORGE

You're right Barry. The only scapegoats I can see are HMRC (not very likely they'll have the finger pointed at them), Generation Rent and Shelter. Is it politically possible for a Chancellor to blame charities for his overwhelming cock-up?

Totally agree they dont want the low paid and benefit people, which is why I raise the question all the time about where they will go.
Many are on the breadline now and tax credits in 2017 will see the average family 2000 worse off.

When they start housing them in Travel lodges etc,, we will never get the real figures because they will be fudged and labelled as something else.

But I can see down the line the private rents are sky high , they then blame us for that and say that the big boys will drop rents by 10%

Maybe they will create a flat pack town called benefits and send them all there.
