David, and others, how can you make such a low profit on such a high number of properties? Are you renting at below market rents? or maybe on very expensive mortgage deals?

My rents are low, if I have a void of an hour that's a long time, I have no mortgage BUT I spend a lot on maintenance, some 50% of my gross rental income. I am content with a small profit provided I am left alone by government to let my properties in the way I choose. The last thing I need is the mountain of paperwork which is now being imposed and for which the tenant will inevitably have to pay.
Although I am not affected by the new charges (they are not a new tax hence any wording which implies a tax is incorrect) I am incensed by the principle of taxing turnover rather than income, hence my support for this campaign. Next victims the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker and before we realise it all businesses will be taxed on turnover.

What is the point of having an "Office of National Statistics" if their findings are to be ignored ?

GO this needs sticking right up your Jaxi.

"Conclusion: Increasing demand and limited supply

Since 1980, there has been considerable fluctuation in the UK housing market. Overall, there has been growing demand and relatively limited supply growth. House prices have been increasing, and first time buyers are finding it more difficult to get on the property ladder – while home ownership among younger age groups generally has declined.

If the number of households in England grows to 24.3 million in 2021 as projected, this would be equivalent to an additional 221,000 households per year9. Housing is therefore likely to remain an important topic in the future."

The only places that their seems to be any agreement with proposals seem to be "a dubious website forum" full of disgruntled and deluded people and a few politicians posturing, the rest just tow the party line with no understanding of what they propagate.

Dislexic, this link is not helpful, as the spreadsheet does not always give the right results.

Anyone who has used it should check its results by using the spreadsheet that can be downloaded from the top of any page of this thread. That one does calculate the tax payable correctly.

It is important now for all landlords to increase the rents . If you start now adding on 10% and again in April 10%
This will STRESS TEST your existing clients and prepare for big tax bill.
Secondly start the tenants complaining due the rent tax turnover tax or general mess the politicians are causing . DO or DIE

Maybe he wants everyone to own a house so when they need care in their old age , the government can grab the house.
