There is always a point when interest rates will reduce a BTLer profits to zero, thereby probably force them to sell. But this is different for every LL.

Obviously though if it is a low rate of interest for the majority of LLs then this will endanger financial stability more, than a higher would be. Common sense I would have thought.

BUT what GO new tax change would do is lower the effective interest rate by 1½-2% at which LLs start to lose money (I read this figure from one of the many report/articles I've read over the last couple of weeks). So GO proposals are endangering financial stability precisely what the Bank of England is trying to avoid.

@Barry W,

There is also insurance, maintenance/repairs to be considered as well as the small item of "profit" that all businesses want to make.

But how does this differ from any "hire" business whether it car hire, tool hire or even a hotel? They too buy capital items and probably take out loans (and pay interest) to purchase these items. Some Ltd Co 's buy their own premises and possibly pay interest on any money borrowed; do they not claim this as a business expense?

and why does it matter what the trading style of the business is? (sole trader or Ltd Co).

Ireland is planning tax breaks for landlords in its next budget. The U.K. & Ireland are doing the exact opposite in order to solve the same problem- shortage of housing! One country must be wrong...

Read the story in link provided below. What is most laughable is the fact that Bank Of England seems to suggest that, BTL is a big threat to economy and Banks...if things become unafforable for landlords etc.

Yet they are planning to do exactly opposite by introducing New Tax which will increase Landlords costs ultimately making their investments unaffordable. If they are genuinely concerned about landlords affordability the first step for them to take is that they do not push their costs upwards.

This is a massive contradiction, which I am unable to get my head around.

They have further commented that Help To Buy is not a threat to economy. It seems as if Carney and Osborne share their beds together.
