Mark , I absolutely agree that a list of key bullet points and arguments would be a great help to us all in preparing for meetings with MP's.

My MP is Michael Fallon , defence secretary . I would be surprised if he has a clue about the PRS and the impact of these changes on professional full time Landlords such as myself with significant gearing and all held in my own name . I posted on this Forum earlier this week asking if anyone could help to summarise all the points which have been made as there is some great content spread over 300+ pages. After a while it becomes less and less clear and it would be great to focus on the key findings now and draw it all together in a summary.

Does anyone have the time to do this please ?

Thank you to everyone who has been contributing and supporting us.

Hi Kathy

I should have asked about the first half of 2007 only, which is when the quango's graph stopped. How many did you buy in those 6 months?

Hi Charmaine

Mark Alexander has done this in preparation for his meeting with the Treasury today. Once he has given them an exclusive, I am sure he will share it with us.

Also, Ros is preparing a comprehensive submission.

The website http://saynotogeorge.co.uk was designed to explain the proposal and its predictable consequences.

Meeting at The Treasury just concluded, hence the update much earlier than expected.

The reason they changed the meeting is that they wanted to meet me personally.

The only attendees were me, Megan Shaw (HMRC), her boss and Sean Rath, Policy Adviser to The Treasury.

I did 80% of the talking because all they were doing is justifying their own impact assessment. They still believe the OBR impact assessment, but admitted that many of our FoI requests are causing them problems.

In fairness they did listen intently and made copious notes. Nevertheless, I felt like King Canute trying to stop the tide coming in.

Hi Trendo

And that was from a Conservative MP!

“buy-to-let landlords have a huge advantage in the market as they can offset their mortgage interest payments against their income, whereas homebuyers cannot”.

He seems to think we deduct BTL mortgage interest from our salaries, like owner-occupiers did with MIRAS.

“Prior to this change, for every pound of mortgage interest costs a top rate taxpayer incurred, they got up to 45p back from the taxpayer. “

I don’t recall the taxpayer giving me back 45p in the pound. It must have got lost in the post.

This is claptrap of a very high order. It puts him on a par with Natalie Bennett as regards depth of knowledge and understanding.

There is also the Q&A drawn up by BTL IS, with the help of some members, Charmaine.

It is via a link at the top of this page and can be printed out as it is pdf.

Mark, did you get any inclination that they may be about to change their mind or there may be room for negotiation. Or is it already a done deal in their eyes?
