Evening all. Had a really long day out looking at land deals so only just now catching up with stuff. I'm amazed at how well the petition has done today and I'm looking for an explanation. I have looked back through the last few pages of posts but can't find an one. Can anyone explain the performance please?? 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi John

Rob and Mark of Progressive Education in Peterborough sent an email out at 19.30 explaining the problem, but only asking us to sign the petition. That will have had an impact

I replied, saying that people need to do more, they need to write to their MP’s.

I asked them to send it out again with links to http://saynotogeorge.co.uk/why-say-no/ , http://www.property118.com/only-1-btl-and-hmrc-tax-me-out-of-business/77297/ and http://www.property118.com/budget-2015-landlords-reactions/76164/comment-page-268/#comment-62071 so that people can download the spreadsheet.

I will let you know if they do send it out again.

Viral effect and people continuously seeing it. That's why mailing companies send similar offers to you at least six times. It has been statistically proven to get better results £1 for £1. For example. 10,000 X 10 mailshots produces more sales than 100,000 X 1 mailshot. That's why it is also important for us to follow people up and also why it doesn't matter if several of us end up lobbying the same people.

Hi Ross,
There are different types of discrimination, the type of discrimination that we are being subjected to is called INDIRECT DISCRIMINATION.
See: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/wales/discrimination_w/discrimination_unlawful_conduct_e/ge12_indirect_discrimination.htm

Sometimes discrimination can be easy to spot - for example, if a hotel turns you away because you’re gay. This is called direct discrimination. This is when you’re treated differently simply because of who you are.
But there are other times when you may be treated in the same way as everybody else, but it has a different and worse effect on you because of who you are. This is also discrimination. The Equality Act 2010 calls this indirect discrimination.

Remember, indirect discrimination is when:
• there’s a policy, practice or rule which applies to everybody in the same way
• it places people who share your protected characteristic at a disadvantage
• it places you personally at a disadvantage
• the person applying the policy, practice or rule can’t show there’s a good enough reason for it.

What’s indirect discrimination?
The law which says you mustn’t be discriminated against is called the Equality Act 2010. Discrimination which is against the Equality Act is unlawful. This means you can take action in the civil courts.
Indirect discrimination is when there’s a practice, policy or rule which applies to everyone in the same way, but it has a worse effect on some people than others. The Equality Act says it puts you at a particular disadvantage.
What’s a practice, policy or rule?
A practice, policy or rule can be formal or informal. It can be a one-off decision or a decision to do something in the future. It includes things like arrangements, criteria, conditions, qualifications or provisions.
What’s important is that it applies to everyone in the same way, that it’s neutral. If something only applies to some people who all have the same protected characteristic, it would be direct discrimination.

I completely understand the viral possibility Mark but it just seems to have taken a bit of a step function today. If it continued to incrementally increase at this rate it would be amazing. Let's hope it does though!

It is the combination of viral and multiple touch point awareness.

Hi Jim.
I think the only one we could probably pinpoint is this ons:

• the person applying the policy, practice or rule can’t show there’s a good enough reason for it.

But it's a very good one! We need to make a note of this one as it could come in useful (I'm terrible for forgetting these really good points further down the road)

John - The positive response to the petition may be due to the reality of the summer budget speech slowly starting to spread online and offline, even if the mainstream media haven’t understood the implications yet. Remember it is not branded.

Talking of which and no offence intended, and you’ve done a good job with saynotogeorge site but do you think the sponsored by Bee Lettings bit (which is present when viewed on PC, but not on phone) should be removed? The reason I say that is because I’ve seen comments from other sources (publicly & privately) incorrectly thinking that it might be a commercial website, which it clearly isn’t.

I totally agree Mark, and I said the very same thing to John right at the start of this campaign.

Can you imagine any of the National Letting Agents linking to a website which then linked to one of their competitors. They be torn to pieces at their next AGM!

The media may well link to Property118 but you can bet your bottom dollar that no business that considers us to be a competitor will do so, even if we have the best campaign facilities in the world to share for free.

Hi Mark, thanks for the suggestion re the removal of Bee Lettings off saynotogeorge. I understand where you're coming from. However I would say in response that when I was looking for someone to help me with the site, he volunteered without hesitation. He's an extremely busy guy so whilst I was glad, I was also a little worried for him. He also volunteered to pay for it but we're splitting costs 50/50.

His only request was that he could mention Bee as a sponsor and I didn't object.

Having built the site,he himself had second thoughts about being linked to it as he was worried that his business would end up at the front of some hate campaign, but having re-thought, now wants to be linked. In my opinion he's done a terrific job and I'm pleased to have him raise his head above the parapet.

He has't put in any logo but just a single line at the bottom of the site pages, which is very unobtrusive. I'm guessing most people won't even notice it but that's just a guess.

I don't really think it's going to have any negative consequences but the site as a whole will hopefully have a lot of positive effects. So, like I said, I understand where you're coming from but think it's probably a small price to pay for his assistance.
