Hi

I agree with Ros that people just seem totally unaware of the effect this will have on everyone from the traders to the tenants. Many probably think their ok as on 20% rate but dont understand how it will be calculated and more than likely they will end up on the 40%.
I too believe the government is out to destroy the BTL sector for private landlords and are using us as scapegoats. They have been drip feeding the public for sometime now via TV and newspapers on how the greedy landlords should pay.
If it goes ahead then he will come back for the 20%, i'm sure.If they had shown their true colours they would not be in a majority government.

I am sending the emails to everybody that emails me from insurance companies to property companies , solicitors, accountants . Mike Frisby has sent it out to his database of 3000 and wrote two letters to his local MPs.

The RLA have started doing something I think the petition is the same one Mark started.

I have emailed the local paper tonight.

I half caught an announcement on BBC News channel earlier this week that developers intend to build 150,000 homes over the next, I think, 5 years and rent them out themselves. £30bn would make them £200k each.

I did not post this because I was not sure about the time-scale. If it is 5 years, then this is 30,000 a year compared to the annual shortfall of 130,000.

It has taken me until now to get my brother to understand what I've been telling him since the Budget.

Problem is, he thinks I'm wrong and hasn't got time to research it (he says) but the truth of it (my opinion) is that he could find the time but can't be bothered because he is so convinced I must be wrong!

That's why the petition has only got 8,000 ish signatures I reckon. Short of me sitting next to my brother with a gun to his head he won't be bothered to sign it either.

Arrgghhhh!!!!!

A shortfall which will grow when BTL investors stop buying.

I predict huge net reductions in numbers of new homes created

Note article about tenants in Scotland signing a petition requesting rent controls because they are concerned about the increasing cost of renting.

http://www.thenational.scot/news/thousands-sign-petition-to-bring-back-rent-controls-and-end-unjust-evictions.5760

There are a few useful quotes.

I have seen news of this and do not believe it will be as successful as the government hopes.

When property prices fell last time and builders had surplus stock of a lot of flats they set up BES schemes and transferred the properties into to these and then rented them out - and sold as soon as they were able.

The Olympic village at Stratford, East London was sold to developers / an investment company and is now rented out by one of these such companies - but look at the rents they charge.

I think there is a perception that many landlords are not paying their fair share of tax - based on gross rental income and net profit, and the problem is action has been taken based on perception.

Nah, chin up Connie. By all means have the gin, but as Ray says, at £100,000 a pop that's only 300,000 places and they're already way behind. I say we assume this won't touch us. I think Monty's example of the effect on him of even a 1% interest rise perfectly illustrates the injustice of the unequal position between ltd companies (and/or big business!) and private individuals being proposed. We could actually use this new information to our advantage. The Government should be squeaky clean with no nepotism and/or hidden agendas. They're not going to want to look like some corrupt tin pot dictatorship. It's good we know, as forewarned is forearmed. If there are 9 million households renting I don't think this new development needs to be that important (I may be naive; I often have been in life, but I hope not this time).
We'll bear this in mind, and use it if we have to in terms of getting assurances that the 'attack' on us hasn't been in order to favour big business...

Tesco, Sainsbury has not killed the corner shop.

I can just imagine head of these Housing businesses ignoring the tenants like the , Council, housing associations to name a few. A good example of sheer incompetence.

The senior members of these housing business will be taking their bonuses and when pushed out looking for their next bonus. Utility, Train operators, Hospital trust, banking are a good example. ( I am no leftie ).

Imagine a call centre answering your burst pipe. While the property is flooding they will still be asking for your pass word etc to comply with data protection & an automated email will be sent to you that you will be responded in 28 days & if not satisfied you will advised to take the matter to the Ombudsman who will award you £50.00 ( I have not been drinking this my 2024 & not 1984)

The crooked large landlords whose name I cannot state for reasons of defamation will have a field day. They never provide the personal/nimble service which a small landlord does.

They will be building the Mc Donald's of industry with branded type of units. The demand is in London & there is no space to build that kind of volume.

Perhaps they will build in the North to support Osborne fantasy of the Northern power house.

Please note article on buy to let thriving.

http://www.qck.com/buytolet-business-thriving-across-uk-reveals-new-data-206488.html

The Barclays survey which concluded that only 1 in 10 landlords were planning to sell is meaningless. The landlords who do sell may be planning to sell several properties or whole portfolios so the impact could be significant for the housing market.
