Harold - I agree a better example could be included in the questions and answers document but can't see the one you have mentioned. Who posted it and when?

Please, nobody sign it. I suspect the only reason it has as many as 24 signatures is that some people here have thought they may as well sign it. There's no rush. We have to get this thing right. Mark and I are working on it.

As I said earlier, this is only one of our approaches. We're not putting all our eggs in one basket. We have to convince MPs to support it by the time we get a Parliamentary debate on it anyway - that is tough, persuasive work.

Some people think it isn't worth approaching their Labour MPs - well, frankly in some instances it is going to be more fruitful to approach the Labour ones; the Conservatives might just toe the party line, despite the party line being insane.

For the Labour ones we can point out injustice (Labour MPs don't generally like that) and also the repercussions on renters who are going to also suffer and quite probably in more painful ways than us, if they are made homeless (some of us might be too, I know). And Labour MPs' natural inclinations are to oppose the Tories, so there is hope...

Is there any mileage in SumofUs and Change.org petitions?

I'm as impatient as you are, I suspect most of us are the same. However if we can get our wording up there it will be much better. The wording from Ruhal Uddin does little to encourage those that are not Landlords. Very very frustrating, but if we can address this issue we must try.

Hi Kathy.
As far as I know, the route to the Parliamentary debate is via the House of Commons Petitions system. That's the one we go for.
We'll work out the best way forward. We have loads of time - the Finance Bill isn't due to go through until November, and I gather most MPs are on holiday.

My Conservative MP is on holiday. I have been sent a thank you letter from his Parliamentary Assistant, with the assurance that he will read my letter upon his return.

I have just sent him my second letter with more details on the effects this will have on individuals.

There may be other petitions with a similar title in the appliction system, i thinkit would be foolish to believe that "ours" will automatically replace existing - it maybe more prudent to request an edit to the one that currently stands.

That's great Connie. Have you thought any more about the newspaper interview? That would be great if you could do it. It would get the message across and also be a morale booster for all of us here. If you felt okay about it, that is. No-one can pressurise me to do anything I don't want, so I don't want to do the same to you.

In the olden days, signatures were collected and presented by actual people to the door of number 10! Just a thought...
