Miss Cheltenham - soon to be Miss England with any luck - has agreed to help us.

Property is her passion, she's certainly not the stereotypical beauty queen who says she wants world peace. She could be a superb Ambassador for us.

It's looking like we'll have to wait until tomorrow regarding the petition getting authorisation. Never having done this before, I assumed it would be instantaneous but not so. I've emailed the petitions team and asked them to email me first thing tomorrow.....

Hello,

A landlord friend of mine pointed me to this discussion.

To start, i would request that you reflect on the origins of the word 'landlord'.

The lords of the land are the 1,000 families that own the UK. Please see Kevin Cahill's excellent book: 'Who Owns Britain and Ireland'. The landlords of the UK are basically the families who helped the esteemed Saxe Coburg Gotha family (rebranded the Windsors during the world war because it sounded a bit too German): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxe-Coburg_and_Gotha

David Cameron and George Osborne went to school at Eton with the scions of the thousand families. You know your school friends who you have dinner with, go down the pub with and who help your kids out? The thousand families are like this - David Cameron is cousin of the leading female Saxe Coburg Gothe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_of_David_Cameron

I'd argue that the constituents of the Conservatitve party are the thousand families - they're the people who they'll do business deals with, and who will employ their children, etc etc.

They simply don't care about the votes of the new landlords - the number of people who want to own their own home now outnumber you vote wise, and their most useful contacts are within the 1,000 families.

Modern day landlords are a challenge to the wealth of the 1,000 families - but you're doing it with debt. A challenge to the 1,000 families will only be handled one way by the friends of the 1,000 - by taxing debt.

Good luck with your appeal - but what do you have to offer David & George in return?

Ros, I just had a look on the parliament petitions site. I see there is already a similar petition on that website....

John - Ant has said there will be a 7 page article by his accountant in the next edition of YPN about the Government proposal to restrict finance cost relief for landlords. He is very aware of the issue and I'm sure he will be happy help. Perhaps his next 'Rant' could be on this subject!

Lets have a look at the duchy of cornwall: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Cornwall - "prince charles'" enormous untaxed wealth won't be affected by these new measures - because he has no debt. Is this a coincidence?

Here is a copy of an email I got today from the Scottish Association of Landlords in response to my question about any plans they have for an e petition:

'As the summer budget tax changes are a cross border issue we are working with the Residential Landlords Association to plan the best way of responding to the announcements and lobby for change. This may involve an e-petition.'

I emailed Megan Shaw at HMRC asking her to confirm the timescale for the Finance Bill going through Parliament. Here is a copy of her response:

'The passage of a Bill can be found on the Parliament site:

http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2015-16/finance/documents.html

There is no set timescale but we would expect Royal Assent to be around November.'
