In his weekly Monday Column for the Daily Telegraph, Boris Johnson, has told Theresa May slash the absurdly high Stamp Duty (SDLT) tax rates and abandon affordable housing targets.

Boris indicated he thought the housing market is the single biggest and most urgent crisis we face and would lead to an impending crisis of capitalism. The theory being if you don’t own any capital assets how can you be enthusiastic about capitalism.

Boris would like Stamp Duty cut to facilitate a more ‘mobile’ housing market that would encourage First Time Buyers.

Boris went on to say: “It is not just that things were so much easier 30 years ago when I left university and went looking for a flat. It was only 10 years ago, for heaven’s sake, that the proportion of owner occupiers among 25 to 34 year olds was still up at 64%.

“That figure has now plummeted to 39%. More than half the key generation shut out of the housing market.

“This is meant to be Britain, the great homeworking democracy, but we now have lower rates of owner occupation for the under 40s than France and Germany.

“That is a disgrace. It is of little surprise that young people may give up on capitalism if it excludes them from housing.”

"That figure has now plummeted to 39%. More than half the key generation shut out of the housing market". I happened to watch something last night (Sorry, I am not sure what it was, some news channel with something regarding the social housing and of course horrible LLS). One of the tenants, in a temporary accommodation said something along the lines: "The current generation and work patterns changed. People want to rent, there is no job for life. Flexibility is needed. Affordable houses for rent are needed." She was a single mum of 4, living in one room, on benefits. What a pity this idiotic government (incl Boris) with all their Oxbridge degrees cannot see that.

Single mother with 4 children, living on benefits?
Are we surprised?
Does she take any responsability for her actions. How do you think she would get on in a communist state?

No, I am not surprised that she does not take any responsibility for her action. If Commie Corbynov comes to rule, she will actually be better off, as any private wealth will have to be shared with her and her offspring. I am in a way surprised that she noted that the people's habits, work patterns etc changes and that require flexibility of renting. The idiots in government are obsessed with home ownership by everyone, do not see these generational changes. She and other stated that they would never be able to buy. Obvious really.

in a communist state she would get help but it would be tough love. Under communism every person is expected to work.
