BBC programme tells tenants to stay put until bailiffs arrive?

Hi, available on BBC iPlayer is the programme ‘Morning Live’ from 12th July 2024, where Matt Allwright advises tenants to remain in their homes until the bailiffs arrive, rather than risk becoming intentionally homeless

You can watch the whole piece from 19:30 on BBC iplayer here >> https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0020z12/morning-live-series-6-12072024

He also says that the Department of Levelling Up has told him that the government will abolish Section 21 but have not confirmed a date or any detail.

Thoughts of this forum? Given this is the same advice councils have been peddling against ministerial guidance surely some complaints need to be raised.

Only plus was he said rent should be paid but gave no caution to tenants that they could become liable for costs.

Thanks,

Paul

Frankly. From anyone but LL POV I thought that was reasonable all the way through.
(LL BTW)

Reply to the comment left by Richard Ellis at 16/07/2024 - 10:19Previous home secreteries have told councils written notice to all of the councils to stop the practice of ignoring a legal notice to leave on the specific date on the notice has long has it has been legally correctly served they choose to ignore it in doing so they are themselves breaking two laws under the homeless act 2017.

Also your own body is your own property, who was that stolen from?

I saw this programme and I objected and emailed in a complaint about his choice of words. He said tenants had the right to stay in the property until the bailiffs arrived. Prior to bailiffs arriving tenants have been told by a judge that they must leave by a certain date. Therefore surely they can not have a right to stay because this would be contrary to the judges decision. Otherwise what's the point of a possession order. Matt allwright is biased against landlords since he worked with housing officers on the scum landlords programme. It is frankly quite shocking that the BBC can allow such a biased opinion to be aired on national TV. No one ever challenges his sometimes skewed and incorrect statements.

I’ve been searching through the Homelessness Code for the specific laws they’ve broken (as I have heard and feel this surely is illegal advice). But I’ve not been able to pin point the exact wording - don’t suppose you could point me to it?

Section 32 is not worth the trouble we have evicted 3 tenants since 2020. One owe over £10.000. and about £5.000 in solicitors fees the other 2 I did the paperwork myself and cost about £500. Per tenant ,forget section 21 and go straight in with a section 8 can be quicker and cost less
